For info: the item on Radio 4 with Simon Calder talking about Silverjet is on between 12.20 and 12.29 approx for those wishing to listen later.

Simon Calder was very careful not to say anything damaging to Silverjet and he stressed that at present they are still flying. However, rather pointedly a good part of his interview centred on what the position would be for passengers either already overseas or holding tickets but not yet flown if SIL stopped flying.

Still advertising Dubai to the travel trade, but Newark has been dropped. This arrived in my inbox this morning:

Silverjet - All Business Class
The World's most Sivilised Airline!
Dubai ~ Silverjet
The feeling of a private jet... Yours for an exceptionally low fare of £549

TTG and Travel News will be covering the news of the share's suspension over the next week so I doubt they will get much more revenue from this source even giving the seats away at half price. Agents will know there is a high chance of them being stranded in Dubai.

Very sad because it was a good product but the airline industry has always been cut-throat, especially with regard to new entrants, and SIL appeared at just about the worst time possible - just as oil prices took off and destroyed their business model.

Having said that, it should be noted there are plenty of industry professionals who believe that a single-class premium carrier is always going to be vulnerable to failure even in benign economic circumstances. They just don't think the model can compete effectively against the mixed-class major carriers.

Its over. No sane person is going to book a flight with them. They may run a few days but staff need paying and fuel is not free. These things always seem go happen at bank hols.

The lession is not to belive the spin from the managers of any start-up. Ask for all the key numbers on a regular basis and do the sums.

Drewz, i personally believed SIL was turning the corner eariler this year with PAX numbers going up, competitors falling by the way side and the fact that the product is quality which i dont think anyone can argue with just go on any independent review website to see that, im not just talking about SIL website, its still to early i think to call this one all over, it all depends on whether the funds are now made available but its does look increasing serious unfortunately for everyone involved.

stluke,

nothing wrong with wanting the company to be a success, but misrepresenting the investment risk and trying to stifle intelligent critical analysis by personally denegrating the posters rather than addressing their investment analysis is shameful conduct.

gluefactory, i think drewz will go on about the past and my support for wanting the company to be a success and how i managed single handly to make loads of people invest! i believe if it had not been for the unforeseen and spectacular rise in the cost of oil the company would not be in this problem and lets not forget there will be other bigger more established carriers who could go under, this is not something that the company can do anything about neither is the fact that there new backer seems to be stalling on the drawdown facility.

I hate firms that con small shareholders. Over the last year the firm has put out such positive news but was burning shareholders cash at a shocking rate.

Anyone who worked out their income and guessed at the costs has been taken to task for telling people that the firm is worthless. I have held no shares and have not been short on Silverjet. I have just tried to tell people that it was trading badly with costs far higher than income.

I think shareholders should sue when they have been mislead as to the state of a firm. CEOs should be positive but accurate.

The one thing they kept quite was how fast they were spending

Who would want to fly with a company when you might find the plane back grounded due to non payment of debts.Happens all the time with failing airlines

jimtid i think we need to see how this plays out yet, to early to call at the moment but does not look good if the new investor has pulled the rug out from underneath them! the trouble now is although they are still flying which i think needs to be made clear, just because shares have been suspensed actual flight operations have not, they are going to lose custom as a result of this even if they manage to drawdown the facility as intended.

Holts - yes, this will be a distress sale at best.

I Am Myself; well done on calling this right all the way through, hopefully your words of caution will have prevented people here from putting too much into this company.

It is sad as I liked the idea of a nimble operator providing a great service, but it looks like the cards are stacked against them with the price of oil being so hard to deal with.

with funding not forthcoming from intended source, surely any one else interested would consider the cheapest way in would be administration and purchase from there.

The fund is not very public or well known. i have no idea how rich they are.
They are going to buy over 4 million pounds in shares of a firm that is trading at 13.5/14p. The airline cannot be a sucess if it changes around £1200 for a service that cost the airline around £1800 to provide. The airline is popular but not viable. When they publish the accounts we will see how it accurate my estimates are.

give me a reasoned argument of how they will become profitable.

I love it you are now giving advice to a multi million pound fund!!!!! you would love that more than anything becuase at the end of the day for one reason or another you cant seem to stomach the thought however small SIL might actually be a success, i think people will clearly see that with your last post I am myself2, i sometimes disagree with other posters but aleast they have a reasoned argument but all you have got is pure undiluted dislike for the company for some reason only you know.
