27/12/2001 10:08 | I have had shares in Shoprite for years. They have a supermarket on the Isle of Man, a car dealership and some property. I have received no information about a takeover approach, though they do look amazingly undervalued. Could be on the cards. Hope this helps. Last trading statement: 10.09.01 :-1, (7.75) after H1 loss 1.631m (+783k) - no dividend (nil). Chairman said: "Retail: During the period under review, competition has continued to be a significant factor, in response to which the Group have implemented a series of new trading initiatives and measures. These have included the review and enhancement of the product range, particularly in the fresh foods and chilled product areas, and the preparation of plans for the refurbishment of a number of the smaller stores. The Group have also embarked on a major advertising campaign designed to raise consumer awareness of both the range of products on offer and the Shoprite value proposition, and have received a very positive response from customers to this campaign. Trading in the recently refurbished and extended Douglas flagship store has stabilised and is now in line with budget expectations. Finally, significant progress has been achieved in relation to the difficulties experienced with the new retailing software system, although considerable costs have been incurred in addressing the key problems identified. Other divisions: Notwithstanding continued uncertainty within the motor car industry and the widely publicised move by Daimler-Chrysler towards the consolidation of dealerships and franchise outlets, Whitestone Garage has maintained operating activity at a high level during the period and has delivered profitability in accordance with budget. It would appear that Daimler-Chrysler are now re-addressing the position of UK franchise holders and as a result the notice of termination previously received, which was due to take effect in December 2001, has now been withdrawn. The property division has performed in accordance with expectation, reflecting satisfactory occupancy levels at the Village Walk Shopping Centre.... The directors are optimistic that the Group will achieve a progressive return to profitable trading during the second half of the current year. Trading conditions over the past year have been very difficult. However, more recently, the implementation of the smaller-store refurbishment programme has yielded an encouraging response from customers and trading in larger stores has responded favourably to the intensive marketing campaign." | irresponsible
27/12/2001 07:48 | Merlin37 It would appear that no-one has any thoughts on this matter or no-one wants to talk to you so I thought I would reply. I have been doing a little asking about and no-one has heard anything, or so they say. It would seem that we need to look more into this one and keep a close eye on the news. | tillymint
23/12/2001 22:48 | This is curious .... first I hear a rumour from a normally impeccable source, and then I check out on this BB what might be cooking, and I find an erudite discussion about a Hebridean pharmaceutical company whose very existence seems to depend on approval for a drug in the pipeline. Fortunately I did manage to avoid being too tempted at the time when British Biotech were all the rage ~ and judging by some snippet I read a day or two back I suspect that fortunately must be very fortunately, as the continued existence of Scotia appears to be in considerable doubt. However, why I should find painful memories of biotechs when I was trying to find if there was anything in persistent rumours about Shoprite is beyond me. I say persistent advisedly, for no sooner had I tried to ascertain whether there was any truth in the rumour that Tesco are in the process of taking Shoprite out I was told, non-attributably, but from an equally sound source, that Safeway are in the midst of taking Shoprite over. Has anyone any firm information on this one? I should not be surprised if it turns out to be Sainsbury who are the real bidder, but in the meantime before a cut-throat three-way bidding battle commences I thought I should enquire in these columns as to what might actually be going on. | merlin37
26/10/2000 08:22 | It went up on the speculatio that Merck were to buy a Scottish baseed cancer research co., turns out its Biovation not Scotia. I think your chart will now start to go south. | glmorris

25/10/2000 22:15 | SHO has made me very happy today, as the V formation at the chart is consolidating, and with it, the share price line has crossed the 30 days moving average, on the way up, very positive for a futher upside. The volume has been good 1.9 mil. with a ratio of 4 buyers to 1 seller. Share price 25 - 27p . I have notice, that others on the Pharmaceutical sector had good volume and rise on the share price as well -NMT-Cantab-Povalis. | master rsi
23/10/2000 22:10 | "aaaa" Do you have to reached, the lowest point and be negative and a lier at the same time ?. ( I can say it because I am not in the House of Commons. ) The total volume for the day was 1.3 million; so how can it be a sell of 1.6m ?. Maybe you are not only a lier but to lazy to write something new, and instead copy what you wrote last week. Your prediction of 5p share had let you down, but you still now pestering with "purely speculative" nothing new, we all know. Maybe the best thing for you to do is " GO TO HELL " ( as Arafat said ), and leave this board alone, unles is something constructive on your opinion, not negative all the time. I have the feeling that you have lost more than a few shellings with SCOTIA`S fall ?. We all have a looser from time to time, if that is any confort to you. | master rsi
