Shell have never missed a dividend payment or cut in its history, even when oil was $10 years ago. If BG deal goes through, £3 billion approx cost savings. In fact in February I expect dividend to be raised.

DikuNo tomorrow golf. Interesting a analyst from Jefferies on CNBC yesterday said he liked Shell, deal was good and dividend will be ok. I agree, 8% yield while we wait for oil back to $65 ok with me.

Thank you osirisra. You have added clarity to this bb. In the next 3 years this will no doubt be considered one of the bargains of the age. The price being paid has to be considered in a 'moment in time context'.
Also RDS intends to buy back a large quantity of the added equity in the next few years. Makes tremendous sense to buy back when the share price is cheap...it certainly benefits the long term equity holders especially.
The long term holder may well benefit in current terms due to the low price and therefore higher dividend and in due course to higher returns as oil prices rise as the equity is bought back cheaply by rds.
It is only the short term that prblems arise.

Knock me if you believe this to be wrong, but before doing so think it through.

Dividend is selfish, irresponsible and not humane.

Dividend safe if deal goes through, £3 billion of cost savings between the two companies. Income investors fill yer boots, if you think bid will be passed.

i would have thought the prospects of war between Saudi and Iran are close to zero.

A war between their proxies is certain.

The brownstuff needs to be chased away and fanned with pinpoint accuracy in Saudi's jugular of power:

from the King, Sa'ud, Princes, Guardian Council, Supreme Leader and President

If deal off Shell goes to 2200p, but I admit if deal goes through the dividend would be safe, I read because of £3 billion in cost savings between the two companies.
