Arctic drilling is a function of executives vanity over good business sense.
Shareholders will live to regret it.

Still no position on RDSB since stops hit last week so waiting - I believe that wait will be over this week as RDSB hits the 1770p zone and tie in with a Brent price of sub $48. At least this is my plan and I'm sticking to it.

"Short covering rally could take place at any time"

Added back a small amount of RDSB and BP yesterday afternoon,
sold RDSB at 1866 so got nowhere near the top, but got very lucky with
my buying prices pre the results pop.

I'd also like to see Brent test the $47-48 range and then pile in again. +/- 1770p region again.

Long, and not offended in the slightest. Will add when the gap surely fills .

Sv, Just looking at that myself. 1777 would be enough, based on advfn chart. You may have more precise data.

Be good to get this filled before the apex of the Descending Triangle which occurs next week and could indicate a turn in the share price

The move down is purely technical. Gap will get closed down to the 1770p level.
More down to come me thinks.

After 30 years as an analyst and investor even longer, I don't try to outsmart the Hedgies and the MMs. This giant generates enough free cash flow to at least maintain its dividend. It hasn't cut it for 70 years. Now yielding over 6%, that's good enough for me. The share price will recover in its own good time - probably when the Hedgies and shorters move elsewhere.

Arrhhh! Should have could have sold out at peak today before 3% ex dividend drop AND secured the dividend and then bought back more shares cheaper!!Rare to see a share go up temporarily infra-day on a ex dividend date.

Risks are purely reputational for Shell in the Arctic. Shell drills plenty of wells and this well is not high on complexity.

Orient, they have spent approx $6 Billion so far so have a lot invested, not in favour personally from a risk context.
From what I have read it's shallow water drilling.

Anyone with oil industry experience who could provide a view on this re
the likely risks?.

There's a valid point about why even carry on with the Arctic drilling campaign when you can just buy assets far cheaper with so much less risk now that most mid size oilers share price have been destroyed.

Buy TLW,PMO,SIA etc right now with little risk. Arctic backlash would be massive on the slightest mistake
