Quite agree, quite a complex issue, particularly finding out which shares qualify and which don't. Nevertheless, the recent relaxation of ISA rules allows AIM shares to be protected from CGT and avoidance of 40% IHT is a substantial advantage that does a lot to outweighs the risk of small cap investing. Stock selection is key. SCAPA is a profitable, well run company with growth prospects, ideal for my purposes. There are others eg Pressure Technologies - cash rich, profitable, growing and paying a dividend to boot.

you are right of course but take care
if they move from AIM to the main market you will have to sell and reinvest the funds into alternative qualifying AIM shares (within 30 days if memory serves)
in itself not such a problem
but..
the 'forced sale' may well trigger a CGT liability

so simply holding qualifying AIM shares for IHT purposes isnt quite as simple as may be thought

Company has decided not to seek a premium listing, so staying on AIM.
Suits me fine. Qualifying AIM shares not IHT liable afer being held for 2 years.

Strange movements here. Huge volume over the past week and today absolutely no buyers in the market and extremely illiquid.

looks more than roadshows to me - bought back what I sold Friday for a few pennies more. Lets see what happens.

Perhaps SCPA is a target like most European companies for US tax dodging corporates who cannot bring the cash from overseas earnings back to US without it being taxed. So Many eem to have decided to spend the cash buying foreign assets instead.

3m always looked like a potential bidder to me - trading less than 1 times sales.
