Saint-Gobain confirms FY earnings guidance as 9-mths sales beat expectations




PARIS (Thomson Financial) - French building materials producer Saint-Gobain
confirmed its full-year guidance as it posted a 5.5 pct increase in nine-months
sales to come in a little ahead of analyst expectations.
For the fourth quarter, the group warned that US construction markets
"should continue to post a low level of activity" but said business in its key
markets in western Europe, Asia and emerging countries is expected to "remain
satisfactory."
The Group confirmed full-year guidance dating from July for double-digit
growth in operating profit at constant exchange rates and growth in recurring
net income of at least 20 pct.
Sales in the nine months to September were 32.630 bln eur, up from 30.925
bln a year earlier and compared to an average analyst forecast of 32.472 bln
according to data gathered by Thomson Financial News.

Wendel becomes 2nd largest Saint-Gobain shareholder with 6 pct of capital UPDATE


(Adds details on value of investment, employee stake)
PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Wendel said it holds 6 pct of the capital and 5
pct of the voting rights of Saint-Gobain after a 1.5 bln eur transaction, making
it the second largest shareholder after the company's employees.
Saint-Gobain's market capitalisation is around 26 bln eur, making a 6 pct
stake worth around 1.56 bln eur.
Wendel did not own any stake in Saint-Gobain before the transaction, a
spokeswoman said.
It is now the second largest shareholder after its employees, who hold 6.4
pct of the company and 10.5 pct of the voting rights.
"This investment in a solid listed company with strong growth potential
takes place within the framework of Wendel's long-term strategy," the investment
company said.

From 07/08/07 "Saint-Gobain has announced the acquisition from HeidelbergCement of Maxit group, manufacturer of industrial mortars. Maxit has 5,130 employees and in 2006
reported sales of Euro1,237 million.."
