Thank you CI.
I didn't see this article.
It is concerning to read that "Signature Litigation – the lawyers acting for Manx Capital – now say they do not know how much will be left after costs".

I wonder if a criminal investigation should now be undertaken.

Next financial year is my guess so first year RBS will make a profit? Depends on the provision they might make so worth watching those closely next month.

This article, echoed in the Telegraph for those who can get behind the pay wall, suggests that the three decade US Treasuries bull market is at risk of reversing.

This all quite technical stuff.

1. The price of a treasury Bond is inversely correlated to its price. The higher the price of a bond the lower the yield. For FTSE100 investors, the more you pay for a share the lower the value of the dividend. It is the same with bonds,

2. Anticipation of higher inflation leading to as many as three rate rises this year, is the cause. If bond yields have to compete with interest rates, clearly bond prices have to fall to push up the yields.

3. Where does that affect US equities? Well many S&P500 companies are trading on such a high PE that perforce the dividend as percentage is remarkably low c/f FTSE100 listed companies. Since in a bull bond market bonds are traded for their price appreciation rather the yield, the prospect of a bear market in bonds means the traders will sell bonds rather than buy them.

4. Where does that leave FTSE100 listed equities? A US global rout in bonds, could lead to a US led fall in equity prices. Whilst London has not kept up with the US equity bull market, I suspect it would track down a US equity bear market, especially if UK Gilt prices follow US Treasuries.

5. How likely is it to happen? No idea but if the FT and Telegraph are reporting on it, investors need to keep an eye on the issue. As for this evening, at least, the US equity bull run seems to be keeping on keeping on.

Ignore the share price l get you.

In terms of valuations RBS is laughably higher than BARC based on the market capitalisation.
