So, updating my 239 post above, Gorsuch was confirmed yesterday to the Supreme Court and Perdue is now pencilled in for confirmation on April 24, when the pols are due back to work. But, as we all know, two weeks is an exceptionally long time in politics! With that caveat, Rosenstein and Brand could be confirmed, therefore, either side of May 1. IMO, there is unlikely to be anything significant to report on the fine at the AGM on May 11. We'll see.

"RBS will do no better than the British economy." Yet with the last few years of a strong british economy, this has gone down ,down and down.

So i doubt that statement is true. Net margins and fines are whst affect RBS share price.

It's frustrating, but the Senate Easter recess begins this weekend, lasts for two full weeks and they will return and pick up the pieces on Monday April 24. Realistically, we should probably be thinking in terms of Rosenstein and Brand being behind their desks no earlier than May sometime and MAYBE a serious attempt will be made to reach a settlement prior to the holiday season recess commencing July 31.

You would think the fine would go a significant way to financing the Donald's Great Wall, for example, and be treated as a matter of urgency. Then again, for domestic 'political' reasons, the WH may prefer to delay any settlement until the Autumn. Who knows? - there are all kinds of permutations, obviously.

As for tomorrow, forget it. The GOP is reported tonight as having triggered the so-called nuclear option in relation to Gorsuch and that is going to keep them busy ahead of a vote to confirm Gorsuch tomorrow evening their time.

So, best case? - a settlement before the summer holiday season. Otherwise, much longer.

So the AGM is going to be on May 11, the same day as Lloyds! That will have some shareholders scurrying around over lunchtime.
Worth reading the RNS for dividend payment implications, in a big picture sense.

Getting back to the job in hand, today's Senate is mostly devoted to Gorsuch's nomination to the Supreme Court, followed by Sonny Perdue at Agriculture - it's grinding forward at glacial pace. Patience required for a little longer for our DoJ candidates....

RBS will do no better than the British economy.

If Britain thrives, as you seem to think it will cfc1, then so will the bank.

Many small and medium company directors are very optimistic about brexit.
Again, do the special few matter or the general brit person?

polar fox, I did not offer my own view and I accept that those who voted to leave are more optimistic than those who voted to leave.

The difference between the two camps was after all less than 4%.

Whilst many who voted, whichever way, are happy to square the circle, some are not.

I see many benefits to leaving but it has to be on terms which secures the UK's economic future.

And, IMO, it's pretty easy to say that your daughter and her circle mostly voted Remain, based on that MSE sentiment poll last week.

It has now been archived, with 16,800+ votes. The final percentages are virtually identical to my initial report a week ago:

83% of vote leavers are optimistic

93% of vote remainers are pessimistic

86% of didn't vote/ineligible to vote are pessimistic.
(These percentages lump the 'roughly the same' category in with the majority in each case).

I intend to use it as a 'guide' over the next couple of years, or however long it drags on.

All my post did was point out the difference in views between David Davis and Theresa May on the immigration issue.

His view was set out in the Sun newspaper ...

EU WINS STAY OF BREXECUTION David Davis promises Eastern Europe UK’s doors will stay open to low-skilled migrants

cfc1, if you do not like this BB you have two choices:

1. Ignore it.

2. Create your own BB.

My daughter, a FTSE100 company senior head officer analyst, responsible for a team of analysts, and married to someone with a highly remunerated job in the financial sector, told me last week, that she knows '...no-one ...' who is optimistic for the economic future of the UK.

As it happens any economic downturn will have little direct effect on them, since they are independently wealthy.
