Not sure where these figures came from Leeds...but they're baloney. That drop would be 112 points.

Fat-fingered spread-bet spinner?

Seems light on any explanation as to why the FTSE should give back any of yesterdays bounce and more.

Seems sufficient to just leave it as - DOW down so FTSE will be more down. They've presumably given up trying to dress it up.

European markets are tipped to open lower today, despite gaining some ground yesterday after the People's Bank of China's (PBoC) decision to cut interest rates and the capital reserve requirement ratio.
The FTSE 100 is expected to open 223 points lower at 5969, while the German Dax is anticipated to open 261 points down at 9867 and the French Cac should open 105 points down at 4459.

European markets recovered some ground yesterday after big losses on Monday, especially after the PBoC's actions.

The FTSE 100 closed three per cent higher yesterday at 6,081 after the Chinese central bank’s decision restored confidence to investors. The Germany's Dax and France's Cac closed 5.3 per cent 4.4 per cent up respectively.

However, American stocks closed lower after plummeting in the final hour of trading, having rallied throughout the day.

Volatility characterised morning trading in Asian markets, but stocks have traded up, with the Shanghai Composite rising as much as 4.3 per cent, breaching the 3,000 mark.

Investors will already be looking to this weekend’s Jackson Hole meeting, where financial experts, market participants and many of the world’s central bankers will meet to discuss monetary policy and the slowdown in emerging markets.

Commentators foam about China's dramatic devaluation.

Err...they dropped it less than 4% and it has remained there.

Anyhoo, perhaps the Shanghai index is destined to reel around the 3,000 mark for now.
