The US would much rather short overseas markets than their own. The game at the moment is spook emerging market currencies to ensure repatriation of US$ to support the already bloated US Indices.

It is like fall of Berlin in 1945, where the bunker had to be defended to the last man and boy standing.

When the US Indices start falling in earnest we will really know that the game is up.

Talking of the markets, Tom keene is an astute host on Bloomberg.

His comment yesterday was that if the markets are simply 'churning' it means nothing is happening.

Talking of Gilts, if the market was/is really pricing in a rate rise rather than just churning shares, the Gilt yield should be rising. In fact it is falling! That suggests money is moving into Gilts irrespective of the yield.

gcom, there are few safe harbours in this market ... Well maybe one of two pharmas and perhaps airlines. Even Gilts are at risk.

England bowler James Anderson will miss the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval after failing to recover from a side strain.

Captain Alastair Cook confirmed England would field an unchanged line-up against Australia, with Mark Wood joining Stuart Broad and Steven Finn in the pace attack.

tfergi, I do not know. No idea. Volumes are said to be very thin. The players may be just pricing the market for a buying spree in September when money moves from Treasuries to shares. But I could be wrong and we could be heading for a major move down in markets.
