China trade growth accelerates in April

Chinese export and import growth accelerated in April, an apparent indication of strength in the economy but one that also raises questions about the quality of the data.

Exports increased 14.7 per cent in April from a year earlier, speeding up from a 10 per cent pace in March and topping most forecasts. Imports rose 16.8 per cent in April from a year earlier, up from a 14.1 per cent rise in March and also surpassing expectations.

That left China with an $18.2bn surplus on the month, rebounding from a slight deficit in March.

RBS 'A NEW THREAD II' - RBS

Which brings me nicely to an announcement ...

I was reading the BB for MML this morning and noted that chipperfrd, who has been posting on ADVFN since 2001, is taking a long summer break ... not from his shares, but from ADVFN ... beginning next week.

I also intend to take a complete break from posting and probably from this weekend.

Market preview: Stocks look to extend their rally, lifted by strong gains in Europe and Japan; S&P benchmark +0.2%. The Nikkei closed at its highest since June 2008, as trading returned after a four-day weekend. Also, Australia's central bank joined the global liquidity club after making a surprise quarter-point rate cut to its policy cash rate. Still ahead: consumer credit.

French industrial production came in considerably lower than expected overnight. France's output fell 2.5% YoY against an expectation of a mere 1.4% drop and manufacturing production dropped 4.9% YoY - almost its worst since the crisis.

Add: Guess a triple dip watch there confirmed...;
