sadly the US markets tanking after the UK close on friday has not helped unless one is shorting !

yws, will probably open in line with US close of about £23.10 . But US might bounce on monday and RIO with it .

Monday is going to be rough . not sure the support at 2250 will let hold. all major indices are down massively on Friday . let not for got why they fell . the rate hike . and does that affect rio ??ofcourse it does. scary time I would say

Rio Tinto shares rise on RBC upgrade
(ShareCast News) - Rio Tinto shares gained on Thursday as RBC Capital Markets raised its rating on the stock to 'outperform' from 'sector perform' and lifted the target price to 3,400p from 2,200p.
RBC said Rio provides the "most attractive valuation" in the sector and the "best in class growth".

The miner is also set to benefit from a more positive view on the iron ore market, RBC said.

"Over the medium term, iron ore's shift back to structural balance will potentially see prices move back to the sharp end of the cost curve," RBC analysts Alexandra Slattery and Tyler Broda said in a note.

"We see this as an attractive entry point for long-term investors."

The analysts said they believe Rio's new chief executive Jean-Sebastien Jacques will continue to lead a "strategically conservative" company. They see the CEO driving consistent focus on Tier I assets, maximising cash flow and maintaining capital discipline.

"The other reality is that large-scale Tier I mining projects can take 5-10 years to be delivered. "Although we agree that RIO's growth is longer-dated, the quality of the Rio Tinto growth is very high and it is adding Tier I assets into the portfolio for next decade, something still to be delivered by peers."

Shares rose 1.56% to 2,371.51p at 0950 BST.

RIO and BHP did well in OZ in a bad overall market . Wonder if it will flow through to those stocks here but usually does not .

yes, FTSE is really struggling although the builders are well down today and other sectors .

Looking like 3272 was the top today.

Likely we will slip back further to 2315-20 at some point this afternoon.
Without US market - uk100 is struggling. Banks are not helping matters.

that coz suppert held. just looking at fmg . what a transformation. they have literally doubled in price and now in the big boy club with production of low cost ore.probably the lowest cost of production after Brazil's Vale. and now they 2 even have a collaboration rio needs to show something special soon. markets are not going to be patient forever.

what a struggle for RIO to get clear of the £31 level and much will depend om figures from USA in 25 minutes - fingers crossed !!

all eyes on the nfp boys nd girls. rio heavily influenced either way as the commodities are priced in usd. still holdng the buy from yesterday 2295.should be interesting . I have a stop at 2250 and up side expectation of 25.00 fingers crossed.

But $30 looks a good support level on US chart Robrah . But dow falling again and
that is a concern .
