13/9/2013 16:11 | Hefty director purchase just released: 30,000 @ £37 a share. Estimated nav, anyone ? | coolen
13/3/2013 23:02 | Go to 'charts', get a 10-year live chart for RIIC and get an overlay of FTSE:SMX for that period (the smallcap index). You will find an uncanny correspondence of performance over the last ten years. RIIC outperformed in 2006 and 2007 and underperformed in the miserable dog days of 2009, but everything evens out in the end! | westcountryboy
13/3/2013 19:37 | No idea I'm afraid. I think you need to look at longer term horizons on this one i.e. years and not just a few weeks! They out-perform over long time horizons, if the past pattern is repeated. | topvest
13/3/2013 18:41 | At the last posting in 2011, NAV was 3100p for the capital shares and 750p for the Income Shares. Anyone got an update on this guy's performance and how it compares to the market generally ? | coolen
30/3/2011 16:44 | Simon Knott is a law unto himself - so difficult to second guess. | edwardt
26/2/2011 13:35 | Annual report arrived today. Things have turned around very well here. It's been a very good investment for me so far with both the income and capital shares doubling in 2 years. Happy to hold and see how they do over the next decade. Only curious decision this year is their doubled exposure to Macfarlane Group, which is not something I would have done. | topvest
15/3/2009 20:28 | these were one of my favs. really surprised how they've been caught out holding HBust,White Young Grim, VP and Dawson into a severe downturn. | not manu
14/3/2009 08:06 | Next wind-up decision is 2011 I understand. It has been around for 46 years, with a new strategy from 1984. That strategy had been very successful up until 2008. They have been clobbered by downward valuations in the small-cap sector. Despite the dividend being cut, I think they are a reasonably attractive medium term income / net asset growth play. Income shares yield 12% and capital shares 7% which is quite attractive, albeit that assumes no more dividend cuts. To be honest, they have a good value play strategy and so valuations should bounce back in 12-18m, although they will take years to get back to where they were at the top in 2006. | topvest
14/3/2009 07:47 | R&I has beer around for years - since the 60s/70s I recall. The problem is there is no wind-up date.....or have I got that wrong?? Will look into it over the weekend. | skyship
13/3/2009 21:14 | Yes, the underlying investments are pretty sound and they have no leverage. Looks like there has been a seller in the background. Once this has been worked through, should bounce. | topvest
12/3/2009 18:04 | I hold some as well. Incredible how much its fallen in this bear market compared to the last. | hazelton
12/3/2009 09:59 | Anyone else hold, or am I talking to myself? | topvest
11/3/2009 09:00 | Bought a few income and capital shares to hold for the long term today. They seem to have a good selection of investments. | topvest
11/3/2009 08:26 | Well these and the income shares just keep on going lower and lower. I suspect it's because there is no buying. May be tempted here soon as they have no leverage. | topvest
09/3/2009 08:51 | What is the tax status of the capital dividends please? Are they treated as income or a capital gain? | topvest
14/2/2007 20:38 | To answer the question in post 2 after a year, Candover (CDI) is in the "just keeps going up steadily" category too. | martinc
16/1/2007 22:06 | Hazelton, your reply from my thread. Sorry just noticed your post, the rest of the charts are in posts 1, 2, If you put this in your favorites it will automatically go to the beginning each time you log in ! (you can always rename it, so that you can recognise it) | chippy2
14/5/2006 20:13 | the capital shares also pay a supplementary dividend each year which, over the last 20 years has increased annually by 18% on average. You can't beat that. | glynnmurray
01/2/2006 07:13 | Not being too scientific that seems as good a reason as many. Looking back over the past years it seems to me to be one you can buy and forget. There are many like it - do you have any others like it ? (CGT , BTEM , RCP , PNL ... | hazelton
31/1/2006 10:04 | I've got some because I like the way it keeps going up steadily, but I'm afraid that's about as far as my thoughts go. | martinc
16/1/2006 22:05 | I am quite impressed with the long term performance of this trust and I am pleased to be a holder. Its strength in the difficulties of 2000-2003 indicate to me that it has been well run. Its current discount to NAV is 10%! Does anyone have any thoughts on RIIC ? | hazelton |
