pictureframe -- I don't think you'll see any institutional activity on RCDO, either selling or buying, first thing on a Monday morning. Westhead is pretty active about seeing his institutional investors and so likely it won't be before Thursday that they push any buttons to alter their holdings either up or down. I'd guess we'll see another 10p on the price then to 225p and thereafter it will go to sleep until May.

LONDON (AFX) - Shares in Ricardo staged a recovery as traders warmed to the
prospect of a return to the black.
The automotive consultant slipped into the red in the first half after a
period of difficult trading with significant order cancellations and low order
intake.
However, the company said an improvement in order intake over the past
couple of months means it may return to profit during 2004. The pipeline of
prospects has doubled since June 2003, it added.
Ricardo announced pretax losses before exceptionals and goodwill of 273,000
stg for the six months to Dec 31 2003, compared with a profit of 7.1 mln last
year. In a trading statement issued in January, the company forecast a breakeven
result for the interim period.
Ricardo shares rebounded 23 pence to 217-1/2 by 8.11 am.

Nice one, need to hold for a month to see real gain. New of recovery is great,
I forgot to mention that no institutions sold out which is also very encouraging.

RCDO's interims look pretty much in line -- breakeven in H1 and profit at EBITAEx level of £4m in H2. Improvements in 2004/5 with business reasonably well positioned for recovery justifies maintained dividend. Share price movements pretty much on track with what I hoped for at post #138. This was the only falling knife I'd caught that I was losing on but now mercifully about break even after averaging down.

"As a result, it said December has been the
best month for order intake since June 2003 and potential order enquiries, which
have remained flat from December 2002 to November 2003 rose by 40 mln stg in the
last month of the year."

Looks like a very nervous market to me I do hope these results are good for the sake of those who are holding because if they are not you will be lucky to get better than a 165p bid. I for one will wait and see.

Hi D,

Lets hope so. I cant see it being neg as the company issued a trading update
that was very bullish. They would not risk putting that out if they were unsure.

I am looking froward to Monday ;0)

Figures are not important. What we need is further good news regarding orders. Trading update hinted that things were looking good, once this is confirmed it should move this share up considerably. Could be looking at a 50% rise on Monday.

If its not so good downside will be limited to 10-15% imho

Personally I think the good news is almost guaranteed as the company would not risk putting out a bullish trading update unless certain.

Seems to be some nervousness ahead of results ... probably justified I guess. We're expecting breakeven at the operating level with a loss due to a few million exceptionals ... is that right?

As usual with this sort of 'recovery' share it's the outlook that's crucial ...

Hi Kiwi,

It was yesterday afternoon that this really picked up pace. For some reason this always moves up after 2.30pm.

This is my biggest holding and I believe it will give me a very good return in the short term.

Hi BB,

Yep I believe this is the point where we can say this is the recovery for RCDO.

I am expecting another 3-5% rise tomorrow as some of those late trades were interesting and included some big buys.

I really do expect to hear that things have picked up in the past 3 months (trading statement)and therefore the numbers dont matter too much to me or the city I expect. Its the bullish news we all want confirmed that will take this back to £3+ imho
