pic_n_mix: Original merger valuation was 705p / share, based on: Cash 352.5p Shares 0.16 Thompson share (price then was Can$46.36) Currency was £1 = Can$2.1936 Now Thompson share = Can$35.75 This suggests revised "valuation" would be approx 630p / share Vote by shareholders is March 26th - if approved merger April 17th the intervening period has massively devalued the offer, and US credit issues have impacted on Thompson share price, but at current share price I can still see this going thro' don't forget final dividends = 10p / shares held as of march 25th / april 16th thoughts anyone?

pugdog: When does one expect the takeover to be completed and the share price to rise to the £6.80 - £6.90 range

jarbie: As I understand it there remains a sufficient risk element in the deal for the market to remain doubtful about it proceeding - the golden share - regulatory approvals etc - the deal is part cash and part Thompson shares on an approx 50/50 basis which adds to this uncertainty - the market does not like risk and holds back the share price for the time being - the market does not expect a counter bid either - jarbie

miata: Risk. That it may not happen, that the Thomson share price may fall further etc. 10% discount for risk is reasonable - ie will probably go ahead.

sidebar: I see lots of takeover speculation in the financial sheets about Rtr today. I hope it's true but every damned company that's seen its share price suffer lately has this type of speculation swirling round it nowadays.

buckymon: Hello all the RTR PRICE range between 358 support and 376 resistance at the moment without any bid talks. the RTR chart did say it could recover and reach 600 p at the beginning of jan 2006. if there is a bid talk what is the best price that google could afford to pay for 1.5 billion shares and how long it could take to confirm the bid talks (is it over three days or more ) what about the buyback programme. is reuter going to stop it if they have already received a formal bid from google ? Reuter will add more than we expect especially at the current competition between MS and Google in China market

ianwc: i would agree with that mostly and i was out earlier and missed any opp to sell out. I you remove a negative US market and weakining dollar, than i think RTR would have been up today. But the dollar weakness does not bode well for RTR share price. Luckily i have a short in ICI which is sensitive to dollar movements as well, and will offset any drop in this i hope.
