I've been doing some calcs on the lists of investments above and I cannot come up with a "best guess" of more than 70p.......
I'd appreciate some help to understand where they get 100p+

Nothing but falling shares up there....Celtic 50% since they got the 10%
Ivernia not worth diddley squat.
Etc Etc
But totting up does'nt come near....
Would help if the company would add a list of their investments and their current
value to their daily investment valuation Press Release......
Show us the money?????
Show us how you arrive at 103p?????

The jump in the NAV has got to be mainly from Thistle which rose about 20% on Tuesday



(20% rise) x (THT 15% portfolio weighting) = 3%. REI's NAV rose 5% at close of business Tuesday

OK I have got some REI. I do wonder a bit about all that REI stock in the hands of cash hungry explorers (there are lock-ins of course). One or two biggies in the p/folio and we will be laughing.

Jubilee Investment Trust JIT is a recent (Jan 03) start up which seems to be using the same share swap idea. I couldn't find much information about it, I just came across it when looking at River Diamonds.

Someone has woken up to the fact that Celtic is all about
GOLD


And REI owns 10% of Celtic Resources!!!!!
No wonder REI surged 10% yesterday
and I have just laid a bet that it will do so again today!!!

The balance sheet of Arcon shows what can be done,,,,given that both Arcon and Ivernia are EXTREMELY valuable to the Irish Banks(thousands of employees with local village turnover of hundreds of millions per annum), the Corporate Bankers used for capital, currency and other lucrative revenue, and the Irish Government who would do whatever was necessary to facilitate the smooth operation of companies with so many votes on offer.
The banks wrote off 87 million last year, so that now there is only 2 million
of debt in the Arcon balance sheet.
Ivernia is in my mind by no means a write off....and at 5c can which is 3 cents US, is a share that I am accumulating for the same reason as I now own 2 million Arcon....the zinc price.
So dont be surprised to see consolidation in Irish zinc mining....I am not saying a deal between the two..........it could be Anglo, occupying the same position as Tony O'Reilly does with Arcon, going to the bancs and performing the same sort of financial surgery......in which case on the recovery of the zinc price..............REI's shareholding in Ivernia could be very valuable.....so could their investment in Arcon if they were ever inclined to make one!!!

A bit disappointing really, but 4 of them are worth watching.

Okay here are some warrants:

Olympus Pacific Minerals Inc. ("the Company") is pleased to announce that the second and final tranche of the non-brokered private placement announced on August 14, 2001 and amended on November 14, 2001, has closed. On closing of this portion of the placement, the Company received gross proceeds of $1,600,000 from Resources Investment Trust PLC, and issued 5,000,000 units. Each unit comprises one common share and one non-transferable share purchase warrant to permit the warrant holder to acquire one additional common share from the Company for a period of two years at a price of $0.32 per share. The first tranche of 4,212,500 units for gross proceeds of $1,348,000 closed on December 11, 2001.

I reckon these are being carried at zero value. currently OYM is 51c canadian
so another 1 million canadian more or less.


(Also found 800k Beartooth warrants excercisable till july 2003 at 70c canadian, but well under water with BTP at 15c!)

Lost about 20k on them.......bought REI well at 47 and have the feeling
that REI might mitigate that loss. Seems to have a pretty secure spread of investments, with lots of chances to hit paydirt....as it may have done in the last few days!!!

Interestingly many of the investments are listed as comprising more than one class of investment.

They had options/warrants in thistle mining which were sold last year and which gave a good boost to NAV at the time. Their stated policy is to assign zero value to such options/warrants where no secondary market exists and only to recognise the value when they are sold/exercised. So ther MAY be some understating of the value of the trust if they have options/warrants held at zero value. One could probably find out by trawling the announcements from the investee companies, but life is too short!
