French power group GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR) plans to partner with Portugal's EDP Renovaveis S/A (EDPR.LB) to bid for offshore wind farms in France, French business daily Les Echos reports Monday, citing unspecified sources.
After a first round of tender offers for four wind farms off the Northern and Western coast of France last year, the French government plans a second round for two farms, of 500 megawatts each, off the coast of Normandy by Le Treport and off the Western coastline of Noirmoutiers.
The bids must be submitted by Nov. 29.
A spokesman for GDF Suez declined to comment while no one at EDP Renovaveis was immediately available to comment.
EDP Renovaveis is a subsidiary of EDP Energias de Portugal SA (EDP.LB).

Renewable Energy Generation Ltd ("REG")

Ramsey Wind Farm extension

Renewable Energy Generation Limited ("REG") (AIM: WIND), the UK renewable energy group, today announces that Huntingdonshire District Council has resolved to grant planning permission for an extension to its operating Ramsey wind farm.

Construction of four new turbines adjacent to the existing Vestas 1.8MW machine will boost the site's clean energy output to around 27GWh per annum, making it one of REG's most productive wind farms.

Formal planning permission is expected to follow shortly and subject to the expiry of the three month legal challenge period, the project is expected to enter construction in 2014.

Andrew Whalley, REG Chief Executive Officer, said: "The existing turbine has performed extremely well since we installed it in 2008 so the extra four turbines will be an excellent addition to REG's portfolio.

"Achieving a resolution to grant planning permission at local authority level is tremendously welcome as it avoids the need to enter the time-consuming appeal process."

I've bought a few of these. The asset management deal with BlackRock looks like a breakthrough in my opinion, and gives the opportunity to recycle capital. It looks like some of their bigger shareholders will want to see a return here, so could be an interesting 2013.

GDF Suez SA, Europe's biggest utility by market value, will develop Africa's largest wind farm in Morocco as the nation seeks to boost power output without adding to emissions.

GDF Suez and local company Nareva Holding plan to complete the 300-megawatt Tarfaya project by the end of 2014, the Paris- based utility said today in a statement. The partners, using a 360 million-euro ($488 million) loan from Moroccan banks and 90 million euros of their own capital, will share development costs equally.

With rising electricity demand and untapped wind resources, Morocco is luring developers including Enel Green Power SpA and Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co. to build clean-energy projects. The North African nation aims to build 2,000 megawatts of wind capacity by 2020 to curb dependence on fossil fuels.

VIDEO: BNEF Podcast on German Debate on Renewable Costs
GDF Suez and Nareva have signed a 20-year agreement to sell the power generated at their project in the southern coastal desert to Morocco's Office National de l'Electricite & de l'Eau Potable. "Optimal" wind conditions will give the site a utilization rate of 45 percent, GDF Suez said.

"There's no uncertainty about power prices or volumes," GDF Suez Chief Executive Officer Gerard Mestrallet said today on a conference call. "There's no risk."
