11/4/2002 14:43 | North End's troubles will start in the summer when Moyes comes in for Jimmy Lumsden - his mentor at Bristol City - and Kelham. There's talk he wants Dixon too, but his budget is limited and with Koumas set to sign from Tranmere - that would surprise me. If Kelham and JL do go - how much compensation should we demand? | no1jacko
07/4/2002 17:48 | great game yesterday against Coventry. Wijnhard is a cracking player and gareth ainsworth has got off to a great start. If we play like we did yesterday in the next two game we will win them comfortably...lets hope Burnely, Millwall or Birmingham slip up on one of their last games and we will be in the playoffs. Going into the playoffs on a good run of form should then see us to the final...and then you never know !!!! | miavoce
03/4/2002 00:17 | What was the actual compensation deal PNE agreed with Everton for Moyes. I seem to remember it was £1m upfront plus £500k if he kept them up. Is that right and is this not something that the needs an RNS? | freelander

05/3/2002 15:47 | Flogging Macken was an excellent piece of business. He has had two good seasons with us, but this was not one of them. His sale will not affect the team one iota, if anything it will help them. He has not put his best in this season, which is sad, because on his day he is probably worth £5m - but he has been on his day only twice this season, both times against Man City, when he scored in both games. Good luck to him, but PNE got the best end of the deal. CU at Millwall. 1-0 to PNE will do me | no1jacko

04/3/2002 17:12 | Man City pay £5m for Macken The Board of Preston North End can confirm that they have reluctantly accepted a bid from Manchester City for striker Jonathan Macken. Following lengthy negotiations over the weekend, and after rejecting two earlier bids from City, the Board have agreed to City's latest bid amounting to £5 million. This bid is in line with North End's valuation of the player. The previous record fee received was the £1.2 million including sell-on fees for the sale of Kevin Kilbane to WBA . Manchester United will receive approximately £1 million of the money from the sale of Macken, because of a sell-on clause when he was signed. The sale means that money will be available for team strengthening if the right players are identified. Acting Chairman Derek Shaw said: "After a great deal of discussion between the Board and David Moyes we were of one mind - that the bid from Manchester City should be accepted." Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: "We have accepted the bid, albeit with reservations. The timing is not good for us, but this was out of our hands. "We had an understanding with Jon that we would inform him if we received a significant bid for him. He has been made aware of City's bid and the fact that it matches our valuation of him. Jon is on his way to Manchester this afternoon to discuss personal terms. Manager David Moyes said: "I am disappointed at the loss of Jon Macken to Manchester City but in receiving an offer of £5 million I consider that is a fair price. The timing of this is not good but sometimes this happens in football. "After the situation in the summer when we refused £4.5 million for Jon I did not feel that turning down £5 million would be a good decision for the club or the player. "We had an obligation to let the player know about such an offer and the opportunity for to be almost certainly be playing in the Premiership next year would have have been a hard one for me to deny him." | porksword
