So for those using SB as our main instrument it may be wise to pull out of our positions ahead of summer period taking profits and re-enter wih the same companies to avoid huge falls and instabilities like this one? Afterall Porvair isn't exactly a volatile share normally!

Of course, my ISA shares aren't affected as long as they recover, or at least start to come back up September unwards, but for spread betting I'm thinking the above might be a more prudent approach.

Almost exactly a year ago to the day there was a three-fold increase on normal volume that precipitated a weakening of the share price until the first week in September. The fall today is that bit more magnified than last year because the run-up to the share going xd was proportionately greater than last year. This will now consolidate, I guess, around a 245-250 support level until the next IMS. As ever the thing to look for is any selling activity by firms holding 3% or more; if they- who will be far better informed than we mere PIs - are content to sit tight than so am I.

I got in at around 250 so I haven't lost anything. Just watched my profits go up to a considerable sum and upped my stop a little. I expected a little bit of stagnation or a gradual fall with it being the summer and then the share price to begin to gain momentum around September, but in a single morning it fell and hit my stop. Literally when I was in the shower.

I will reasses things and am sure that the correct time will come to re enter. I still maintain faith in this company. I also only started trading for real in Jan of this year after 2 years of research and practising with mock investements.

I'm overall pleased with my profits, especially in such a short period of time but I never foresaw such a number of very, very good companies experience such inexplicable falls in share price for no apparent reason. I know in this case it will be the MM at work/a tree shake but I see other very good companies share price slowly falling by quite a bit too.

Is this just what happens in summer?

2 at - I hope you acted quickly to lower your stop-loss. The mms will have caught out people this morning who maintain too tight stops.

P7, That was a big drop on very little volume, which would suggest a tree shake! Sadly no-one can answer than one for you, but I continue to stick with the story of this company and have a good holding.dyor.

Novice trader here. I've gone from a considerable amount up with porvair to, in the summer months, drastic fall and now I've been stopped out. Should I buy back in at the low price in anticipation of the ride back to 300?

Yes must admit, I sold my lot at 2.82, still firmly believe in company & management, just felt it was due a wee correction after a Stirling run. Will have no hesitation in jumping back on board later in year. That's if I can time it right, usually my timing stinks!!! GLACM

Historically this share always hits the doldrums in August, shortly after going XD. It slips through its 50 and 150 day moving average and then picks up strong momentum again early September ahead of the company's IMS later in the month. These are tightly held, so the price will respond strongly to buying/selling pressure either way. Good luck to the profit-takers - it's been a great ride since Christmas. Personally, I'm staying on board; PRV have a range of product that's in demand, benefits from proprietary technology and excellent post-installation sales, has sound management and - who knows? - might even succumb to a juicy bidder.

The rising trend seems to have been broken. It is running out of steam.
I admit i have sold mine as i don't like the look of the chart.
It will probably go up now!

12at; the shares have doubled over the past 9 months and are now on a pretty high rating. I would be very surprised if it wasn't profit taking.

does anyone know the cause of this fall?
nothing's been announced and its too much of a pull back to be simply profit taking, surely?
tree shake?

Alcoa have beaten earnings estimates, largely thanks to increased demand from US auto manufacturers. Hopefully indicative of the health of the markets that we service.

Reassuring to see the trend re-establish itself ahead of the company going XD.

I think they will slowly continue to creep up - there are fewer sellers than there are buyers.

Didn't even get below the 50ema, W.
Still, PRV has grown to 4.3% of portfolio, so I shouldn't complain.
DIA approaching a forward PER of 20, I think I'll have to look elsewhere.
What a flibbertigibbet I am!
