just looks like an aggressive seller who needs to liquidate position.
spoke to co not aware of anything untoward and obviously not pleased to see the price here.pointed me towards very recent agm presentation and that planning application for islandmagee close.
personally unhappy that the co brokers have not managed to create any stability in the market when volume is not especially high if they can place £2.5m worth at 100p 6 weeks ago surprised they can't place some stock 25% lower.

Change of name hasn't done the share price any favours- any views why the current price is almost 25% less than recent placing ?

very peed off myself...co broker earns fortunes in the secondary offer at a big discount @ £1 then has zero firepower to stabilise aftermarket for what is probably a placee who got in for a fast buck panicking as they realise that there is not that much liquidity especially at this time of year and needs to out before the year end.so without any fundemental change a hard fought and justified move to over 120p has been floored.
still very bullish for next year and i think the shares could be one of the star performers but a very disappointing year end.

there is a forced seller of a couple of hundred thousand in the market probably now close to being cleared.i picked up another 10k @84p.
as far as the "game" is concerned it is totally unchanged from the last update and the 100p fundraise.expect the price to move in multiples as the funding route is firmed up.

Well the share price now down to 81p - never mind the new name change the game appears to be over.

looks like a bored seller who got involved in discounted placing for a quick turn or a forced leveraged seller...either way picked up another 10k today @87.5p av and think its a fine opportunity..so does one of the directors by the looks of it.

re name change...it could focus attention on the company's other assets.
"In order that the "Portland Gas" name can remain with the Portland Project where it is very well established in Dorset, the Directors intend to seek approval at the next Annual General Meeting of the Company, scheduled for December 2009, to change the name of Portland Gas plc to "Infrastrata plc". The Portland Project company, Portland Gas Holdings Limited, would then be renamed to "Portland Gas Limited"."

from latest from report and accounts...should be imminent maybe news with agm on 15th dec.
"Islandmagee Storage Limited plans to
complete the Environmental Impact
Assessment and submit the Project
planning application before the end of
the 2009 calendar year."

I was under the impression that planning permission for the Larne project was being sought "by the end of 2009". Can anyone confirm this and if possible add a date. I have been expecting a surge in the share price but it is going in the opposite direction.

guidfarr,

It is indeed PTG. The stock lending position in 2009 has been as follows:

................Avg. Lending........Avg. shares in Crest......% Lent.......SP (p)
Jan-09...............0..........................................0.00%.......62.00
Feb-09...............0..........................................0.00%.......49.50
Mar-09...........8,763...................67,190,342.............0.01%.......49.50
Apr-09...........8,817...................66,429,734.............0.01%.......58.00
May-09.......2,315,239...................61,178,117.............3.78%......106.25
Jun-09......15,000,000...................61,069,848............24.56%.......93.98
Jul-09......15,113,043...................61,063,814............24.75%.......85.25
Aug-09......16,300,000...................61,285,477............26.60%.......92.49
Sep-09......16,300,000...................61,346,200............26.57%......123.50
Oct-09......16,300,000...................61,342,480............26.57%......108.45

My guess is that Credit Suisse have bundled their stock into a structured vehicle that locks in a share price of around 100p but gives them a share in the upside if the share price spikes as and when PTG secure funding for Portland. I do not think this has led to direct selling of stock in the market (there has not been sufficient volume). The other possibility is that Credit Suisse have lent the stock to another of their funds or used it as collateral.

i was checking the crest loan data and what hit my radar is that it seems PORTLAND ORD 10P has 26.57% on loan!! is this the same company? I do understand the rights issue would bring in shorters but 26.57 lol? why is the market so negative?

holism,

Placings are normally at 10% to 15% discount to the market price so 100p was not an unusual discount. Had it not been for the EIB news, I would have expected the share price to track back towards the 100p level following the placing.

I think it was prudent, and indeed necessary, to raise £2.5M to ensure that there were no going concern issues at the year end next March and to strengthen the board's hand in negotiations over funding for the Portland project. I do not think the discount was too large or the dilution (at 2.9%) too great: imo this de-risks PTG for all shareholders and improves the reward/risk ratio. But I would say that wouldn't I?

[Edit: I don't think this move smacks of inexperience]

kooba,

I have heard similar complaints made by offshore wind farm operators and developers. The counter argument is that the Crown Estate rental charge is piffling in the context of the overall capex and opex on these projects, and that the operators are crying wolf. The figures I have seen suggest that the Crown Rental charge is immaterial to the viability of these projects.
