Peel Hunt: Polar Capital inflows prove its strength

Polar Capital (POLR) delivered a stronger-than-expected performance in the fourth quarter and there is ‘clear upside’ at the asset manager, says Peel Hunt. Analyst Stuart Duncan reiterated his ‘buy’ recommendation and increased the target price from 535p to 665p on the Citywire Elite Companies plus-rated group, which held its gains at 532p on Friday. Assets under management ended the year at £21.9bn, which was ahead of Duncan’s previous assumptions. It returned to positive flows, with net inflows in the quarter of £56m across a broad range of different funds. "Against difficult market conditions, this was a much stronger performance than we expected. There is a more positive tone to the outlook comments, with the pipeline remaining strong. With the stock trading on just 6 times embedded value [to pre-tax earnings], there is clear upside."

Thanks for the dividend cover prompt Tag57. They show dividend cover in chart 7 on page 13 of the full Results details. It’s not far off being covered BUT more concerning is the slight miss on earnings expectations. If that continues then the dividend could be cut. Since the key reason for thinking of buying was the 10% dividend, I’ll give it a miss.

Kenmitch, I would check CLIG’s divi cover before buying as barely covered as I recall.
I have held CLIG for a couple of years so 30% down as EPS has been in decline.

I hold all of them except CLIG ….which I’m very tempted to buy with 10% dividend yield. Good update from POLR greeted by 20% share price gain on the day. Patience will be rewarded with nearly all of these and while we wait for share price recovery the big dividends keep rolling in!

ASHM has a niche in emerging markets.
CLIG shows a huge basing pattern along with a large dividend.
MNG has just kept on keeping on while pumping out cash.
Not a bad sector to be in for the dividend seeker.

As they are a geared play on indices, and if the S&P is appropriate, then even after the current rapid rise they could still have more ahead of them.
Being a new convert I would like them to drift back between now and June so I could increase.
Given their international tech/health/insurance bias I don't see them as particularly susceptible to ETF competition, as some commentators have mentioned.
Enjoy the divi and wait for another 2021 Summer seems a good ploy to me.
Pleased I stumbled on them.

Holding tightly onto my shares, despite the rise ! I notice PMI Premier Miton is having it's turn today, on AuM news. LIO bouncing back.

There could be an outbreak of optimism with other funds. I've noticed a little rise on CLIG and FSFL both of which I hold. POLR still showing yield of 8.5%, not in a rush to sell any.

Christopher Mills made an interesting comment in one of the Vox Markets videos on Polar. He said he was not knowledgeable on tech shares. But he could get (at the time) a 10% dividend on Polar Capital (not generally available on a tech share)and also get good tech exposure.

Let's see if POLR can hold on to yesterdays's big gains / build on them today. FTSE futures currently suggesting an up day.

The Ashmore Group AuM update is also due soon, maybe next week. I hold these too, let's see if that shows positive inflows too since January.

Wow wasn't expecting such a large jump in SP, as has been mentioned today's update is not really a surprise the way markets have moved this year, especially US and Tech...

Blimey. It seems that with Lio and Polr one is well placed to capture the best of the market, while reaping a supersized dividend.

Find it bizarre that an AuM update where most of the data is visible several days prior boosts the share price this much.

Institutions and analysts really aren’t paying much attention to small cap share prices at this point.

Well at current shareprice of 499p it's still yielding an incredible 9.2%. Long-term hold for me.
