Angus Rigby, Chief Executive Officer, TD Waterhouse comments: "The new year has opened with balanced trading activity, with buys representing 47% and sells 53% of our customers' top trades this week.

EDIT

"In this cold winter our customers saw a hot deal with coal mine developer GCM Resources, whose shares have been snapped up, making the company a new entry at number five of our top ten buys. AIM-listed GCM Resources, whose portfolio of investments includes South Africa and China coal businesses, and uranium interests in West Africa, Sweden and Australia, has been experiencing phenomenal growth in share price this week, with the stock up 98% (and up 170% in the last month).

"Recent elections in Bangladesh at the end of December have been seen by analysts as favourable for GCM's operations in the region, a less politically volatile area, rich with coal reserves - an alternative to other energy sources. Just a few days before polls opened the company declared it was 'looking forward to working with the newly elected government of Bangladesh to move the Phulbari Project forward'.

"On the back of GCM Resources share performance, TD Waterhouse's customers have also been buying shares of another coal exploration company, South African-based Polo Resourcing. The AIM-listed coal miner owns a stake in GCM Resources, a 'sizeable strategic investment' according to its latest annual report. TD investors zealous trading of the stock has placed the company in ninth place of this week's top ten.

Covering their shorts, in other words. Offer has gone unconditional at 75% acceptance, so no rival bids will emerge.

From the Times

"Paladin Resources gained 9p to 363.25p - above the level of the 355p a share cash bid from Talisman Energy - as bears were forced to buy back stock at a premium ahead of the delisting of the oil and gas explorer"

Curious that share price still ambling along just over the 355 mark - I missed out on the rise - or did I - maybe not if there is something going on - hope so!

Indeed, who knows - I have a few TLW as well but I fancy one or two others will get taken over before them - still wondering when we are likely to get our PLR loot - Christmas is coming!

The chart of Tullow Oil following in the footsteps of Palladin.Too early to be speculating on take over of TLW but who knows what the future holds.

It really is a done deal now I reckon - and a bargain for Talisman - so, when do we get our money, I wonder...?

And who is next on the take over list...here's hoping it is one of my other oilers! :) :)

Well, I must offer my congratulations to shareholders, although I think Talisman's timing is poor and they've bought at something of a top in the market - I expect they could easily have saved themselves £200m if they had waited a few weeks. What's worse is I believe they have overpaid - but I don't expect many complaints from Paladin shareholders!

It appears that to get offer price of £3.50 i have to wait till offer comes in the post, according to Hargreaves Lansdown spokesman and can take 2 months to get the cash,if Talisman get sufficient shares, or i can sell at share price as shown less commision!

people are buying for the divi, and extra 5p premium as well.
But it could be the short closing!! IMO
I think the shorters were burned big time yesterday.
I sold @350p yesterday.
Good luck to all.

why are people still buying or seliing these ? whats the point in buying small amounts at circa 350 when we know that we will only get 355 from Talisman. when you consider dealing costs and stamp duty theres no room for profit and why sell under 355 ? am I misssing something here ??
