Its a bit grim over here compared to ZA. Its breaking out to new highs and is trading at the equivalent to 17p mid compared to 14.5p mid over here. Smart buyer this morning picked up a few shares at 14.75p whilst the MM were asleep. This potential deal is dragging on now. I think that will be the only catalyst I can see that will bring some life back into the share and narrow the discount to ZA. A takeover offer for PTMN would definitely do the trick!

Just to let you know you're not alone here, Nick. Thanks for the South Africa info. I see the bid is back to 13p now. Onwards and upwards?

PTMN in ZA is up sharply again. Now trading at the equivalent of 16.5p on pretty chunky volume. The response over here from MM is almost criminal. The thieving gits drop the price to try and shake a few sellers out. I doubt that strategy is going to work though. Hopefully they will end up with a bloody nose at the end of this.

Continuing to move up sharply in ZA. Now trading at equivalent of 15p. Its on a pretty chunky volume so I would guess there a few people in the know buying in. The flurry of buying yesterday and today suggests news must be pretty imminent. Im amazed that nothing seems to have leaked out about their intentions across the press or BB yet.

PTMN putting in another strong run in SA. Not reflected yet over here but hopefully they will be in a position to announce a decent deal which should increase liquidity and narrow the spread.

The action is happening in ZA. The UK price is only getting dragged up as its been left behind the ZA price. Hopefully get some good news soon and then we might see the MM actually do their job instead of robbing us with a 15% spread.

A piddling 30000 buy (£4k) yesterday, and the price ticked up a whole penny (8%).

Exactly the same buy today, exactly the same effect again.

Well worth watching?

Petmin has broken upwards though its stochastic moving average, giving a short-term buy signal

"Shareholders are advised that the Company has entered into negotiations which if successfully concluded, may have a material effect on the price of the Company's securities. "

Spiked up on JSE but not to recent highs, so could be nothing.. I'd like to see them break through them.

Think it's something new, or they'd surely have just reconfirmed. What it is I've no idea, but happy to be long a few here, & hoping for M&A which involves them as the prey...

Well the company said it intends to pursue plans to become geographically and commodity diversified and has a number of acquisitions in mind so hopefully we'll get some news soon.

Approaching parity - still needs to go a little bit lower yet tho - 9p

Wasnt rocket science to figure out this was going to happen.

This has been well called and almost predictable in terms of retracement back to near parity.

I would agree that this is a good medium term buy at below 10p and, as alluded to, it will probably go there. Good luck all.

coming back down towards parity with the JSE price after the Tips.com ramping -

got stung on a similar thing with duel-listing and Tips.com on Cape Lambert CLIO - shot up way over the other exchange price only to drop back within a few days / weeks.

Always something to watch IMO if it has a duel listing - check the prices match or nearly match before you buy.

Needs to get to 9p or so to be even with JSE - looks to be heading there...

lol steg and mike; Tooooooo much sauce for you two coz I can't see any naked woman ;o)

28% gain in 2 days helps get well past that big spread.

Goood points paper and studying charts for alot of new issues there is def a case for waiting for them to come back down to form a bottom before buying.

For me this one seemed to offer a bit more considering their history and strong m/ment.

When anybody like City Equities ring me I tell them to go forth etc

What I find when City Equity phone me to punt a new issue share that they have bought in on a placement they seem to look for a quick 20/30% profit on the placement in this case they bought PTMN at 9p and sold at 12p the activity seems to generate some momentum. In view of the JSE price not performing in line with AIM I'm waiting for the drop back to 9/10p (where it is probably well worth a punt) but this asssumes a shrinkage in MM margin. I now have a history of 5 such share buying opportunities with City Equity 3 I bought two I declined. One that I bought has, after a year of 25% losses, realised a 32% gain (a yield of 20%)although it was realised 15 months longer than they expected. An other, after dropping a relatively acceptable 10% within 4 days, has me now sitting on a 32% gain hopefully going up. the third quickly lost 33% and is now sitting 26% down. I am hoping the pattern will continue so am holding the loss maker and now have a policy of waiting on any other pressure buy opportunities for the drop.

As far as Ptmn is specifically concerned I might be old fashioned but when dealing with assets in weaker currency areas I prefer to pay in hard currency at a discount rather than a premium which exists in this share at the moment as good a potential as it may have.
