The story remains intact;

Apparently Leeds and Nottingham were double digit improvements year on year and PHO are residents in both cities.

An 'improving' trading statement will do wonders as it feels very lonely here. Just a £10k purchase yesterday and £3k buy today.

25% upside by next trading statement?

John Govett, a director since 1998 has sold three quarter's of his holding on the 11th of this month. He's had a good career and I can't initially understand why he would sell a 225k block at half book value in the face of improving conditions......This was a family holding, I can only presume he wants the funds for other purposes....

Sir H - were you encouraged by the strong October figures for the UK Regionals?

Average occupancy up 4.7%, RevPar up 6.5%

"The data suggest that hotel operators may have turned a corner during the summer after a particularly sluggish start to the year, and are now making an important contribution to the UK's economic recovery.

"If hotels are able to maintain this level of performance for the remainder of 2013, then we may see the sector report positive rooms yield growth for the year as a whole, which would have been almost unthinkable back in the spring."

Zzzzzzzzz.

More evidence that the recession in the Hotel sector is over with good Q3 figures for regional hotels. There is a mixed message for Leeds (up) and Newcastle (down) so remains to be seen how much PHO has benefited from the general improvement.

'Overall, regional income before fixed charges PAR has increased on a
last twelve month basis in each of the last six months. This trend will
provide relief for regional hoteliers and generate confidence going
into the important corporate bookings season. The most encouraging
fact about recent regional performance is that improvements have
been quite broad based'

'Regional performance has again been strong in Q3 2013'.

'In the regions, Q3 2013 performance has been strong with the exception of Cardiff and Newcastle'

£7k buy here and £5k there and the price ticks up a couple. It doesn't take much. Getting ready for the next leg up?

Looking for some indicators on how the third quarter may be going? IHG reported last week 'In the UK RevPAR grew 1.5% in the third quarter. London was impacted by the tough August comparatives from the Olympic Games in 2012, but outside of London growth was good through the quarter led by an increase in occupancy.'

Still sleeping soundly at night??

Good spot bb2. Shares Rag may well be right, but the same article also quotes;

'The outlook for Hotels in 2014 is good with two leading consultants putting forward bullish views. STR forecasts that growth in US revpar - revenue per available room, a key performance industry benchmark - will go from 5.7% in 2013 to 6% in 2014. PwC sees UK revpar growth going from flat in 2013 to a 2% gain in 2014'

'The Hotels sub sector is a play on economic growth which in turn influences consumer and business confidence. The stronger the economy, the stronger the demand for hotels. GDP growth is good for hotel revenues and, because there's traditionally been a strong element of fixed costs to the industry, operational gearing benefits means profits should rise at a faster pace than revenue.'

I could counter that whilst there is barely any trading in the stock, if investors do become interested with so little free float the rise could be quick and significant.

If PHO cannot grow the top line, perhaps someone else will come in, take them over and increase the sales?

Interested to see how it plays out, but still my preferred sector.

Bit of a snippet from a hotel report by Shares Mag, small negative mention of Peel. I don't feel they quite understand the situation.

There's a handful of micro-cap hotel plays on AIM and Shares Magazine would steer clear of all of them. Peel Hotels (PHO) is struggling to grow its top line and there's barely any trading in the stock.

I see Gazza in the papers seen leaving our Norfolk hotel unfortunately back on the booze again. Looks like he's past help though it opens the debate on serving alcoholics. What can be done Very sad indeed.

Thanks Sammy, nothing new but still worth a read. 450k cost savings from April next year from the swap.

Yes, solid results. Outlook quite promising for H2. The major upside is next year when the swap falls away. I suspect they will be back to the dividend list next year. May even get a final dividend if H2 is strong.

Solid results, but perhaps I was expecting a little bit more. The RevPar shows that room rates are on the up but others across the sector are increasing income by over 4%.

The 732 rooms in the portfolio are valued in the accounts at c£50,000 per room. I think that price will rise with the market to perhaps £75,000 per room, so the general sector outlook still makes this a hold for me. All ships in a rising tide...

EPS and EBITDA increasing numbers are hopefully the start of a trend, and with the Swap ending next year those numbers should be boosted further.

On track.

Chairman Robert Peel said: In spite of flat Sales we have managed to produce solid EBITDA improvement, REVPAR growth and a modest decrease in finance costs with net debt continuing to decrease. We hope to continue this improvement over the remaining trading periods of the year.

Would have liked to see more occupancy but i suppose 2% is a worthy increase.
