26/2/2012 19:08 | Exclusive: Montagu Private Equity poised to snap up College of Law Montagu Private Equity looks set to buy the College of Law, EducationInvestor can reveal. The private college, which has been on sale since last September, had been widely expected to go to either education giant Pearson or Providence Private Equity. But market sources confirmed overnight that the College was now in talks with Montagu, which is said to have been looking for a platform investment in the UK's higher education sector. One source said that the preferred bidder had "offered a significantly higher valuation" than its rivals. The deal has yet to close. Montagu specialises in management buyouts of companies in northern Europe. It focuses on companies worth from 100 million to 1 billion (£85-800 million) and has a "preference for businesses offering products or services that are differentiated and would otherwise be badly missed". The College of Law, which received its royal charter in 1975, is currently a charity, and owns a portfolio of city centre real estate in London and other major cities. In 2006 it became the first independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers. At the beginning of September it announced a strategic review, with a view to a potential sale. Such a move would reposition it as a for-profit institution, like its main rival BPP. As many as eight potential buyers put in bids for the College. Advisory firm Hawkpoint is advising on the deal. From Education Invester Posted on: 23/02/2012 Pearson tried to buy BPP in 2009 but lost out to another private equity group. | artibee

24/2/2012 09:37 | hazl, unless this was a high profile partnership involving proprietary know-how or big bucks it is unlikely to give DLM much visibility. Probably most used as a reference in their sales process. | santar
24/2/2012 07:46 | Pearson being such a successful company........ would like you guys' opinion on whether DLM, which has some sort of partnership with Pearson, would provide it with any kind of visibility through this link? Am unsure how tenous this link is. | hazl

24/1/2012 18:58 | my guess is that the large jump from 10.7 region to over 12 was due a fall back of some amount... and the news from Apple and its involvement in Digital textbooks helped push that fall back ! Apple is of course a scary competitor to have I would assume... | markt

21/12/2011 07:10 | The latest wave of reforms to the state education sector are expected to open a £53 billion market to the even greater private sector participation. This of course provides a whole new opportunity for outsourcing companies of the ilk of Serco (LON:SRP) and Tribal Group (LON:TRB) as well as the sector specialist such as Pearson (LON:PSON). | lucky_punter
