08/1/2017 14:01 | Headline: Newly Certified G.hn Products on Show at CES 2017 Link: Quote: Marvell showcases Wave 2 powerline technology, which both ARRIS and CIG have recently certified to achieve the HomeGrid Forum logo on their products. Wave 2 powerline technology provides a higher performance backbone network for whole home coverage for the ultra-peak broadband experience. Quote: With 4K OTT adoption expected to rise to 189 million global users by 2021, consumers are placing ever-growing demands on network throughput. G.hn is the number one technology to fulfil the needs for an in-home ultra-broadband experience, by extending Wi-Fi coverage and performance throughout the home and creating a true hybrid network over any of the available mediums. Commentary: Arris brand their G.hn enable routers with "Ripcurrent" (see post 49695). Arris makes some of its money by taking the technologies developed by device vendors like Intel, Broadcom and (here) Marvell, and making them consumer friendly. I think the ability to buy a home router then extend it by just plugging a device into a mains outlet is a key feature that will encourage consumers to buy more Arris retail products and encourage operators to sell-on Arris devices. | mbhesms

07/1/2017 12:38 | Headline: CES 2017: New routers defend smart homes against hacks URL: Quote: BitDefender unveiled a new version of its Box router while Arris revealed that it was adding Intel's security software to its devices Quote: Intel Security has signed a deal with hardware firm Arris to include its security software in a specially-made line of home protection routers. Intel has yet to release prices for these products Commentary: This raises awareness of security as a valuable feature when selecting a home router. Arris gets mentioned. | mbhesms
07/1/2017 08:54 | photos* of and by thomas woodson, joey schusler, and sam seward biking the huayhuash mountain range in the peruvian andes. with a climb to over fifteen thousand feet, the route they planned for had only been completed once before by bicycle. as woodson puts it, riding a bicycle in this terrain at that altitude is “like pushing a wheelbarrow up a staircase while trying to breath through a drinking straw.” | freddie01

05/1/2017 11:48 | Thanks mbhesms. Sorry, still not worked out how to attach links etc. ;o)Yes, that's the one. Sometimes around CES there are multiple releases, perhaps there is more to come? I agree, not sure it was enough to move the so as happened yesterday. Not complaining though! :o) | laugher
05/1/2017 10:24 | Following up @Lauger's post Link: Headline: ARRIS AND INTEL SECURITY COLLABORATE TO DELIVER WHOLE HOME CYBERSECURITY Link: Headline: ARRIS Announces Industry's First Gateways with McAfee® Secure Home Platform by Intel™ Security Summary: The SURFboard SBG7580-AC gateway combines a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, 802.11AC Wi-Fi and 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet. McAfee Secure Home Platform offers real-time alerts about new connected devices entering the home, device identification, parental controls, access controls for users (schedules and other restrictions). A simple-to-use mobile app will allow for convenient customization. Commentary: So far this sounds like a more polished and user friendly version of the the kind of firewall / parental controls / email alerts you will get in a modern home modem/router like a Fritzbox. One interesting thing is where they say "ARRIS will announce pricing for McAfee Secure Home Internet at launch" which suggest they may be trying out a subscription service to continue earning money from their products after selling the hardware. Being an Intel product this may be tied to the use of Intel hardware by Arris. So will customers buy an Arris modem because of this feature, or will network operators buy Arris so they can sell on this feature, and will customers pay for the app and any subscription services. It doesn't feel to me that this announcement is significant enough to boost the share price. | mbhesms
05/1/2017 08:09 | They announced in new product yesterday. A gateway for retail by the look of things, integrated with McAfee. An industry first apparently and supposedly available first half 2017. Not sure that would have done it but maybe if it is an industry first and potentionally a further push into retail? | laugher
