Comcast shouldn't claim Directv tech is old

"Industry self-regulation group says Comcast should avoid several claims in advertising its Xfinity X1 set-top box cable service."

Alex
What's $40 (in your estimation) by Christmas ?
From memory, it was always a £5 whooooosh
Your perennial optimism carried me through many dark days in my Pace journey.
Hope you are having a good day in Auld Reekie, it's a lovely day here in Ultima Thule.
Best

Alex , not selling all of mine. Just banking some hard earned gains. If they go down from here over time I will be happy to know that what I sell at today will average any relative loss up. And if they go up or stay the same next year I will be more than happy. On a day like today, I'm back from the ride by the way, my glass is definitely half full and someone is at the bar getting the next one in for me ;-).

1carus - agree about the beautiful autumnal sunshine in Scotland. we have the same here in Fife. Just about to go to Edinburgh for the afternoon.
I am not planning to sell but to hold until they reach $40.

Sunny Autumnal day up here in Scotland -- Might be a perfect day. Going to enjoy a nice spin on my bike then sell some of these at $29 when I get back. ( Well you have to be positive on these things!)

waggle - you mean spreadex? I can see Arris (or Arris Group!) listed for shares, but nothing to indicate that I can trade call options (or the spreadbet/cfd equivalent). Have you done this with them?

1gw, not too sure who you spoke to, if you go onto their website you will see Arriss clearly listed under US stocks...if you run into problems speak to Andrew Sykes on 01727 895189, and if still no joy post again and I will endeavour to help.

Comcast - Netflix

Comcast are giving their presentation at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference. It feels almost like a Netflix ad, but is a good demonstration of how seamlessly Comcast appear to have integrated Netflix into their X1 system. Netflix links now appear on the normal X1 guide menus (TV, Kids, Movies etc) and can also be called up via the voice remote. Looks to be very well implemented.

waggle - thanks for the suggestions on the options trading.

I've checked with Spreadex and they can offer options trading (through spreadbets) on S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 constituents but seem to have no plans to extend this to other Nasdaq stocks such as Arris (they suggested it was a regulatory issue).

The IG Index site also talks about Dow 30, S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 stocks, but over the phone they suggested they might be able to trade options on other stocks (I wasn't convinced though). If they could do it they would charge a spread of 5 points if I bought on a spreadbet basis, which as I understand it means that if the official spread was 30c-55c (e.g. the Nov 18 $32.50 call I mentioned in my earlier post) I could buy the call at 60c or sell it back at 25c. This 5c seems like a big increase in the cost of the option, but perhaps I should look at it in relation to the price of the underlying share since the value of the option should move broadly in line with the underlying share price.

I suspect this will get left in my "too much hassle" pile for a while longer.

therer have been some very interesting soundbites over the last 24 hours as a result of the BBC coverage of the London silicon city co's. One of which was intending to ride the wave of the demand for bandwidth/internet doublingin the next 2 years and again in the following 2 years. Now whilst there will inevitably be further pricing pressure due to the commoditising effect, the fact remains that the growth potential for Arriss is HUGE???

I used to use options in a different way. I would sell the option and take the premium. If I ended up with the shares I was getting them at a price Iwas happy to be buying them and if not I was puting away a nice sum of money every 3 mths. Incidentally if you end up with the shares you could then sell a call option and again either end up with the shares being taken from you at a good profit or effectively taking a regular income against your holding

the share price only stayed over $29 for about an hour...
Maybe they'll move up over the coming couple of months as we head towards Xmas and the busy period...

I'm hoping to sell my next tranche at around $30...

I have never traded options for myself. Always felt that the pricing was poor value. Those 1gw prices above though look interesting.

I am hanging around until the Christmas price after a long haul too but will wait longer in part or whole if the forward p/e remains so low. Why - because I believe in the earnings growth story which the market may only just be beginning to price in - unless a predator sees it first.

Also more buybacks please, and use the stb cash glacier to increase debt and/or acquisitions. Gearing up the balance sheet would focus remaining earnings to higher growth and firmer p/e valuations.
