13/1/2016 08:21 | Link to a very informative piece explaining the difficulties in funding Tungsten projects. This was published end 2014 - but these are the thoughts of Mark Seddon who was involved in publishing the Roskill metal reports, so well worth a read. It gives a breakdown of pretty much all the Western projects at the time which might be considered Ormonde's competitors. Don't be put off by the 2014 date and the fact that an awful lot has changed, there is still some good info here if you follow ORM or the Tungsten market. It certainly gives a background to why ORM ended up with Oaktree. www.streetwisereport If any of you have the time it is also worth taking a little look at what happened at Almonty after the takeover attempt at Orm fell through. This helps get a picture of the consolidation going in the market. It looks like they've picked up some big projects through debt and share arrangements and have also managed to get some operating cash in place. I still think they would have struggled to bring Barruecopardo anywhere near production, certainly on the short term. There strategy seems to be to acquire the projects and sit and wait, they have some cash flow from smaller operating mines so will probably be able to survive this period. I'm not pushing Almonty as an investment choice just thought it was interesting to see how they were playing the market. Still building my holding with Orm, again with money I can lose if necessary - as I do see risk here, should the market remain depressed. I'd imagine some on this board may have quite sizeable shareholdings by now? One thing that has puzzled me is whether Oaktree might just take the decision to buy up Ormonde or try and buy out the complete project by increasing its position in Saloro. If you look at Orm's market value it is peanuts when compared with the level of investment that Oaktree are applying. This is not an area that I have much knowledge of so any thoughts? | 12vic
12/1/2016 15:34 | A second new usage for Tungsten that caught my eye over the last couple of months was in the exciting area of energy storage. Solar energy storage using tungsten diselenide (Thin film - cost effective energy to hydrogen) hxxp://actu.epfl.ch/ hxxp://blogs.hmc.edu Energy storage tech IMO the next big Green tech push, missing final component of intermittent green energy production (wind/solar/wave etc). "Both sets of results indicate that tungsten sulfide compounds are promising materials for improving energy generation in the solar cell industry. Increasing the efficiency and production rate of photoelectrochemical water splitting solar cells without inhibiting any other functions of the cell is an important goal in the field of renewable energy science. These tungsten sulfide compounds look to be promising leads into better and perhaps more accessible solar cells for the public, which is never a bad thing for a society so reliant on the energy we generate. Tungsten is also favorable because it occurs naturally in biological systems, making it somewhat more benign with regards to the environment, which is very important when considering the potential waste hazards associated with any form of mass production and consumerism.[2] It seems the future of solar power may lie in the hands of one of the world’s densest heavy metals." | contrarianinvestor
12/1/2016 15:28 | Looking to mid-term new usage of Tungsten (1-5 years) .. And this very interesting article from BBC today. High efficieny incandescent light bulbs using tungsten and nanotechnology(goal of 40% efficiency versus 13% LED) Note that the drop in tungsten demand from legacy incandescent lights over last decade is quite significant, if that was to reverse due to high efficiency and lower cost compared to LED, then i would expect a >10% increase in tungsten demand (10k tons) over a short period. | contrarianinvestor
11/1/2016 16:23 | Unfortunately, there is no daily quote, at least without an expensive subscription, as far as I can find, so unsure of any time lag in the chart above. | steelwatch
11/1/2016 16:20 | Dolores - best I can find is Today's Market View from share price Angel via Proactive. Comes after "Bulk Commodities: Other: Tungsten - APT European prices $165–185/mtu vs $170–190/mtu last year | steelwatch
11/1/2016 15:47 | Carlo - according to the chart in the BB the price has again lifted further but it does not show an exact price. Can you help Steelwatch? | dolores123

04/1/2016 19:50 | Have some cash to spend and a decision to make, ormonde or wolf shares. I already hold ca 500000 orm @ 0.028. Do I want to dig deeper with ormonde? Or take a stake in wolf. | micnoc2015
04/1/2016 08:22 | Shareholders in Wolf minerals seem happy with the recent rise in the tungsten price and their shares have edged higher accordingly. Hope it bodes well for Ormonde this year! | dolores123
31/12/2015 07:34 | My rough guess is that when the mine is in production it will be worth £100m+. Therefore Orms 30% share would be circa £30m and thats before any expansion. | dolores123
30/12/2015 19:10 | So if we were to assume Mr Black is correct, what would Ormonde be worth per share at a price of 250/apt? | admiral jellicoe
30/12/2015 08:23 | Extract from above link "Tungsten outlook 2016 Against that backdrop, 2016 brings with it the hope that at least some stability will return to the tungsten market. For his part, Black expects to see demand continue in line with 2015 levels. “Prices should stabilize around $250 toward the end of [next year],” he said." | dolores123

22/12/2015 15:13 | Machine translation: Green light for industry to the expropriation of 18 of the more than 100 plots that will occupy the tungsten mine Vitigudino-Arribes-A Industry declares the need for occupation of the areas included in the scope of exploitation of exploitation Through its publication in the official bulletin of Castilla y León (BOP), the Territorial service of Salamanca industry has spoken out regarding the occupation of farms for the exploitation of the resources of the future tungsten mine located in Barruecopardo and exploited by Saloro. After studying the record and respond to various allegations raised, the authority has given the green light to the compulsory purchase of 18 more than one hundred parcels affected by the installation of the mining. In the rest of the cases, the company has been able to reach different arrangements with their owners. After its publication in the BOP, the following process, which will advance the process of expropriation is to publicize through the official bulletin of the province of Salamanca.
