06/2/2004 14:15 | Trades in this stock are about as frequent as posts here. Glad to see others on board Well undervalued, so I've added in spite of the 5% spread. If they get themselves a new broker this could go higher quite a bit faster in my opinion. It's hard to motivate myself to get into a company when you need the share price to rise 7% just to reach break even... ES | edmundshaw
02/2/2004 23:06 | This is a rock solid company that nobody seems to know about. I've been holding them for years. Until 2003, when the price at last started to move upwards, the share price could remain static for months. I'm sure there's more good news to come from the company when their results are published. | eclair
27/1/2004 14:25 | Beckaroo, I looked into this a good while ago through a couple of other bulletin boards and my broker and it was never too clear. The consensus seemed to be a mixture of (at least at that time) a single market maker and the fact that it is in the SEAT system. It seemed very strange to me but I reckoned them to be a good long term investment with a pretty fair dividend. Time has shown this to be the case, although I think the share price has not really caught up yet. I'm sure it will in time, perhaps when the results are reported, hopefully with a nice surprise in the earnings! | coffeedragon
24/1/2004 17:37 | CoffeeDragon, Have been in these since just before the interims so not posting a gain yet but they seem to be winning bigger contracts such as the prisons and the Licoln student accommodation. What I especially like is their relationship with Severn Trent. With all the water companies needing to improve their systems they should get regular contracts from these in the years to come. I just wish the stock exchange would post the trade data. It is the only stock I have ever seen that doesn't. Do you know why? | beckaroo
23/1/2004 19:31 | beckaroo - great posts! Sooner or later the market will catch up with the potential in this stock. Could be the third year in a row for surprise in the year-end figures, reading between the lines above! C | coffeedragon
23/1/2004 18:11 | What an undervalued company. What excellent contracts. You should have a look at the website and the number of vacancies they have available. Thanks to businessderbyshire for the articles. This story published on January 20, 2004 £9m contracts for NMC Civil engineering and building specialists North Midland Construction (NMC) has been awarded a series of contracts by Severn Trent Water that have a combined value of over £9m. The largest of these is at Maltby in South Yorkshire and is for a major upgrade of the sewage treatment works. NMC has also been awarded phase two of Melbourne Water Treatment Works on the Derbyshire/Leicester The contract involves the replacement of glass reinforced plastic water mains with new ductile iron and steel pipes of various diameters and the construction of a new pumping station. Pinxton-based NMC handled the initial phase of this project which aims to improve the water delivery capability to the area around Melbourne. Other contracts are for the design of civil engineering and mechanical and electrical works as well as handling works on site, at various locations across the East Midlands. These include new chemical dosing plants at Toton and two in north Nottinghamshire. There are also tertiary treatment plants at Clowne and one in Leicestershire. Mark Blakeway, executive director (civils) at NMC: "We are handling an increasing number of contracts for Severn Trent Water and many of these are for combined civil engineering and M&E works. "This is a clear acknowledgement of the combined strengths of NMC and will undoubtedly pave the way for further contracts of this nature." | beckaroo
23/1/2004 18:08 | Prison contract North Midland Building, a subsidiary of Huthwaite-based civil engineering and building specialist North Midland Construction, has won a £3m contract with the prison service at Lincoln jail to start in the New Year. The contract is for the upgrade of fire and general alarm systems at the prison. This includes the installation of new alarms, both general and fire, as well as of an audible auditable cell call system in one of the segregation units. NMB will also be installing a new power system in parts of the prison along with a new standby generator. There will be modifications to the cabling across the prison complex. kBrian Evans, managing director of NMB, said: "This represents an important new contract for NMB and follows other similar work that we have handled for the prison service. It is a clear acknowledgement of our capability of working in a secure environment | beckaroo
23/1/2004 18:07 | Award for NMC Huthwaite-based building and civil engineering contractor North Midland Construction Plc (NMC), working in partnership with Severn Trent Engineering and Carl Bro, has scooped the Process Team of the Year award at the Severn Trent Water Achievement Awards ceremony held recently in Birmingham. NMC is one of a limited number of contractors which have partnership arrangements with Severn Trent Water to carry out maintenance and improvement works to its infrastructure. Severn Trent's Amp 3 programme has generated more than £50m worth of contracts for NMC since it started in April 2000. NMC's chairman and managing director, Robert Moyle said: "We are delighted to have been given this award as it is a fitting symbol to all the hard work our staff and workforce have put into the relationship with STW." | beckaroo
09/1/2004 17:51 | Small mark up this week. Traded volumes showing each day and results due in March.....after a treading water period looks like now could be a good time to purchase/add. comments ? | santangello
26/12/2003 15:01 | Hidden in the undergrowth, North Midland Construction offers a good return for the investor wanting to bank some gains from more exciting stock, yet itself is significantly undervalued compared to its sector and deserving of a price adjustment soon. It has a history of undercalling earnings, with 17% and 54% surprise in 2001 and 2002, 2003 interims suggest a strong second half. Neat website at Held these for a while, topping up with profits from elsewhere and getting a good return in a safe haven which looks like it might also turn into a growth investment itself. Interesting feature is that buys take forever to appear, this has been a subject for discussion on a number of BBs. Probably explains why it doesn't get the attention it deserves...... All imho, dyor, etc. Best wishes to all ADVFNers for 2004! | coffeedragon
17/11/2003 11:42 | contract news on the way????????????????? | bigbobjoylove
12/11/2003 19:14 | Nice new NMD website up and running. Although at present links are not working for me. But it looks much better than old one. | beckaroo
06/11/2003 15:43 | start of the next big push north.A very cheap stock if ever there was one. | bigbobjoylove
19/9/2003 10:06 | Capex of 916,000. Hardly too high or am I reading the results wrong. No debt and net cash, PE of 5 or 6. Div of 4-5%. I think what holds this stock back is the fact that the trades are not published. Its is the only stock I have ever known this to be the case. Does anyone know why?? | beckaroo
19/9/2003 08:51 | Perhaps NMD have shot their bolt. Headline earnings are all very well but not if the company has to have high Capx to sustain them. See for yourself. | skyracer
16/9/2003 19:42 | One good thing about the company - they do pay the dividend promptly. Ex-div is tomorrow already and the payment is next Friday 26th September. Perhaps when the cheques arrive some will be reminded to buy a few more shares? | afpk53
13/9/2003 20:54 | Hullo everyone! First post here. Re not seeing NMD trades, see my thread on Citybull General Forum. Coffeedragon | coffeedragon
13/9/2003 14:21 | So what about the interims then? Big increase in turnover as promised - pity there wasn't more profit in the jobs they did... Anyone more familiar with this type of operation who can explain? | afpk53
18/8/2003 13:01 | Ah, normal service resumed. | skyracer
18/8/2003 09:35 | System failure at Winterfloods, leaving Brewin as the only "live" market maker, so they call the price wide to cover their behinds. | tiredoldbroker
18/8/2003 09:03 | Odd, 81/130p down "45.5p" this morning. Looks like a quotation fault to me. Slight possibility results contain a bad shock. | skyracer
09/8/2003 15:58 | Thinking the interims might be due in a few days I phoned the co only to be told that they will be announced on 10 September. Delay is blamed on a new computer system having been introduced - which is now running smoothly of course! | afpk53
06/8/2003 13:03 | takeover on the cards???? | bigbobjoylove
06/8/2003 10:34 | its a bit of a volatile one with just 1 mm !! Blimey like a brides knicks yesterday b4 it finally finished blue ! Very cheap but balls of steel and nerves required. | bigbobjoylove |
