After BRIT got taken over i think Novae are the favourites to be to be taken out next because they are the smallest by market cap of the Lloyds insurers left.

From last months Insurance Journel(exciting i know)

Brit plc Chief Executive Officer Mark Cloutier said an excess of insurance industry capital will force more executives to sell or merge their companies.

“It is tough out there,” Cloutier said in an interview. “There are enormous capital inefficiencies, so consolidation will bring some of that efficiency back. There is also the herd mentality so I expect to see more deals over the next 12 to 18 months.”

Pensions and hedge funds have been plowing into insurance wagers as they seek investments uncorrelated with stock and bond markets. The glut of money in the industry has pushed down prices and eaten into providers’ margins. Arch Capital Group Ltd. CEO Dinos Iordanou said Feb. 11 that the crowded market has led to the emergence of “desperate competitors.”

His comments echo remarks by Catlin Group Ltd. CEO Stephen Catlin, whose company accepted a takeover offer from XL Group plc. Analysts this month have said that Lancashire Holdings plc and Novae Group plc may be the next targets.

Whats going on? Well i think the 2 previous posters to you called it right.With the bullish chart added to the dividends and takeover rumours in the sector you have the perfect storm.

Well I did the same mid morning - a little too early; but no amazed at the spike today and its well in advance of ex dividend date. so other than the 36.5p dividend coming up no idea.

With an EPS of 79p and the yield of the 2 dividends (inc. special) at this price, I also expect £7 in the not too distant.

Impressive set of interims. Big increase in ceded RI gives them some protection if catastrophes increase as they surely must at some point. Stated PBT includes £2m of non-recurring advisers fees.

Don't know why these have fallen so much recently, as last results were good. But with results due in 2 weeks this could be buying chance.

Shares xd a lovely 36.5p divi today. So share price actually up 2%!
