2007 has been a rough year for many stocks. NIS would, if not for the agreed buyout, achieved very good results next year. We wont get the benefit of that now.

Personally, I have made a VERY good profit on this. All my purchases in various blocks have been under 58p. I would not have sold for some time. But thats life and investing.

As soon as the money is released, I shall wait for the large fall share prices that I feel is inevitable this summer. If ever there's a year that "sell in may go away" applies, it's going to be this one.

And then when I think my chosen share is low enough I may put the whole NIS money into it. Or I will pay off my mortgage. :)

Yes - 112 shareholders joined slaterlp and hf14 in voting against, but that was not enough.

Commiserations to those long term holders who could see a much better price a couple of years hence but that is not the way the market is thinking at the moment.

On a personal note I came in on the last bid when commentators described it as win/win - either a bid of 120 or it would reach 120 under its own steam a year and a bit down the line. Ha! I just break even on that one. I did, however, add a few minutes after this bid was announced and get a mouth-watering 47% increase on that tranche.

Good luck to all with whatever you put your NIS money into.

thanks mazarin

That works out at about 14% per annum keeping rather than selling at 93.25 immediately. Waiting is boring though.

---------------------

I've already got a lot of money in silver and gold. The NIS are in an ISA and I may put the money in silver, still within the ISA. I've got no confidence in the banks and think there is much worse trouble to come that is at the moment still awaiting the light of day.

I received written notice today of the proposed take over process - 'Scheme of Arrangement'. For anyone needing clarification here's the timetable. Meeting to be held for Shareholder Approval on 9th Feb 08. If approved, the scheme is expected to become effective on 5th March 2008 and payment to shareholders (GDP 0.95p cash) within 14 days.

Snap. I used to work for BP. So I am kind of biased there.

I like the culture at BP, and historically whenever the figures have been down it has always been sorted.

But your dead right, even a low oil price wont hurt either of them. I remember the profits BP were making at less than $20.

Again long term, these are energy Co's now and energy is big business.

Slate - imho the size and position of either company it doesn't really make a difference, although I prefer Shell as they have dealt with their Russian issues (Sakhalin II) and Athabasca oil sands will be accounted differently this quarter giving more depth+detail plus I will admit bias as I used to work for 'em before I joined the real world.

imho their both juggernauts even oil @$50 isn't going to hurt them - both are blue-chip safe harbours, cash rich and paying a solid divi which looks more attractive against falling interest rates - that's my interest - i'm taking a 12-18 month view.

slater / balcony / UJ - It's tempting as it's only 1.75p off the final price which isn't here or there when balanced to the risk - plus as you mention there is a lot of value in the market atm. I have personally sold half leaving the balance as near enough free shares until the end. I'm just waiting on a decent slide to the lower 1600's in RDSB

Well today sold my shares in the market just in case the deal does not go ahead,If the market keeps falling there could be loopholes for a bid retraction,Only my thoughts.

Great post Grlz.

Speaking of hunting, I confess I am now very tempted to sell into all this carnage.

There are so many bargains out there at the moment, and to be liquid now I think might be worth way more than the comission free 95p.
