Aleman, by Brother has a holiday cottage near Falls Creek, we stayed there during our last trip at Christmas - absolutely beautiful!

I do hope this is not the first signs of early cooling due to the weak solar cycle. It could mean major trouble ahead with colder weather until about 2023 if so. Some winter citrus crops were threatened by early heavy snows in Iran last week..

It's a bit worrying that UK power generation has been at its limit in the last 24 hours. Solar and wind don't work when its dark and frosty and closing the big Yorkshire coal stations has left us dependent on imports to keep factories running - and we are still very close to the supply limit. Had there been snow across the UK such that it was even colder, they would probably have been shutting factories down.

Morning All.

Hopefully another blue sky day today, albeit even colder. The car was showing -2°C on the way in this morning. Managed to keep the log burner going all night so the house was still warm when I got up.

Need to take the boat up the river and fill up with fuel at lunchtime. Didn't realise we had done so much since filling up last, need to keep it topped up in the cold weather to prevent diesel bug!

-0.20% for today, the worst of it being taking a hit with KNOS even though todays loss is much less than they would have been 6 month ago. On Friday the share price had finally crawled back to just over breakeven ahead of todays interims and it was my intention to sell. However Fri suddenly got complicated even when seemingly retired and it never happened.

Worst value fallers : KNOS -8.9%, BT.A -2.4%, HSBA -1.3%, GSK -1%.

Highest value risers : ASY +4.2%, BGO +5.3%, CSN +1.5%, IGR +1.5%.

WIN7 PC back from having all the failed & missing updates installed successfully, hope that draws a line under MS attempts to spirit us WIN7 users away to WIN10.

Wall to wall sunshine, perfect for walking except one of the dogs had to be seen by the Vets during the morning.

4/7 for me. We have been in Oxford for the weekend, back home this afternoon.

Friday's report:

I was up +0.320% on the day (FTSE100 +0.169%), Up 0.60% on the week (FTSE100 +0.96%) and up +9.76% YTD (FTSE100 +9.59% and HIX +13.65%).

Best rises: AZN +2.17%, ULVR +1.70% and NG. +1.418%.

Worst falls: LLOY -1.52%, BP. -0.85% and BA. -0.74%.

Now for today: I'm down -0.402% on the day (FTSE100 -0.603%).

Worst falls: BT.A -2.38%, VOD -1.86% and RDSB -1.85%.

Best rises: MARS +2.26%, SSE +2.12% and UU. +1.45%.

I've given up on trying to understand share price movements. I suspect that machines have more efect than humans or news.

+5°C this morning in Oxford with a clear blue sky and the odd contrail looking like a comet. +8°C on the way home. My gardening man has cut our hedge while we were away. It looks much better now. That's it done for another year.

We finally got that sunny day, with the cloud clearing away just before lunch. As a result, we managed to edge above average for the time of year, to 8.8C. The flipside, with the drier air, is it has already dropped to 2C so a cold night is on the cards.

The European chill is getting deeper here this afternoon Aleman, the mercury is tumbling as I type!

Despite a good effort from DX. and the utilities today, the fallers were ahead: SIPP -0.03% LLOY, PETS & GSK and the pot -0.48% LLOY, RDSB & AMS

Our Guy in China looks the most interesting tonight, although I might take a look at Tricks of the Restaurant too which is just before it.

JD. have divided their shares up from 1.25p to 0.25p so the effectiv eopening price is about 320p and that Peel target price would be 330p. (I do not hold.)

My cold is nearly gone after two weeks - but I have not had much cough. It was more gastric.I still get breathless, though, so may have some coughing to come yet to clear residial muck off my chest.

A glorious sunny start after 3.3C last night but already clouded over. I presume it will clear again as I've been told the forecast is for -6C tonight!

Went to Southport yesterday, just because we have not been in ages.The esplanade is still nice, although sits oddly with lots of new "shed" retail outlets under the very long pier that goes over the boating lake as well as the beach. It was disappointing to see numerous units empty on the high street and the people and shops seemed a bit more down at heel, although the pensioners were still trying hard to glam up a bit. I saw my first Pound Cafe which was advertising cheese on toast for £1. I would not like to say whether the shops were struggling due to the economy or the new sea-front "sheds". Other seaside towns have been trying to up their game in recent years, so maybe Southport is not one of the more attractive any more, although still fairly nice..

Off to Northampton for a couple of days - I'm not particularly looking forward to it, as I still have this hacking cough.

Morning All.

Pretty cold and dull all weekend but managed to get just about all of the jobs done. Moss on the drive now all jet washed away, three of the Echiums potted and brought indoors to the conservatory (although not looking good at the moment), one compost bin emptied onto the allotment and restarted, oak tree successfully planted at the woods (went well thanks Skinny) followed by a lovely roast in a nice Fullers pub with a pint of Firecracker - their winter ale. Oh and of course tennis yesterday morning!

I presume JD. have had some sort of share consolidation after the acquisition, as the chart looks a bit sad this morning?

Still getting January temperatures here in proper freezing fog yesterday. -1.1C low, 3.4C high, then 1.1C low. Sunnier today so should manage about 8C but next week forecasted cooler again.

I advanced +0.23% on Friday with ASY +5.1% the prominent riser.

+0.78% over the week making Folio YTD +10.34%.

Escaped the real cold nights/days so far with this intermittent cloud cover, though expected to be colder on Monday.

The Madical Lantern Festival was nice if a little overprioed - but the youngest two were free. The kids were happy so mum and dad were happy.

Dry and, eventually, sunny. 8.4C. 2C now.

Got family in Aberdeen. Very cold there again last night, as it has been all week.

Enjoy the lantern festival Aleman, sounds lovely.

Funny old week but at least my lot saw a gain. The SIPP managed +0.17% on the week despite another big fall for the Gold & General fund, and is now +10.30% YTD. The pot had a good time with a gain of +1.28% on the week and is now +5.90% YTD

Have I Got News for You tonight, before that we'll catch up on Close to the Enemy.

Sunday we're planting an Oak tree at the woods which grew from an acorn off my late Mum & Dad's tree in Australia. It's been in a pot for 12 years so it's time to let it loose!

Sun came out at last - 2pm - so we get the couple of hours. It will probably make for a chilly night but we have tickets for the Magical Lantern Festival in Leeds tonight. We got in first night to try avoid mud and it now looks like weather will be great, if a little chilly, so I will have to stop moaning! :-)

Sorry Aleman, forecast spot on here with clear blue skies and lovely sunshine which is really setting off the remaining autumn colours. I even got another coat of preservative on some outside woodwork at lunchtime, although I have to admit the suggested 10°C might have been slightly ambitious!

The SIPP seems to be seeing an improvement this afternoon.

My cold symptoms have virtually gone after two weeks except I'm constantly a bit short of breath. Haven't had much of a cough. Maybe I have that still to come to. Don;t feel too bad, anyway, Some people say it lasts about 5 weeks. Hopefully, that;s a different bug. Good luck with yours, Skinny.

Forecast of sun wrong for the 3rd consecutive day. At least it's dry and I've cleared the leaves. It looks much tidier and the trees are bare now so shouldn;t need doing again.

Looking very quiet for my lot, slipping back and forth by about £100 either way.
