I'm down -0.108% on teh day today (FTSE100 +0.169%).

Worst falls: MARS -3.61%, INDV -1.59% and TATE -1.58% XD.

Best rises: VOD +1.43% XD, SMDS +1.27% and GSK +1.20%.

Not sure how they got that change for VOD, which actually fell slightly. MARS posted good results, with an increased dividend, well covered and naturally fell considerably. I despair.

Saw the diabetes nurse today, following my hypo the other week. Sounds like maybe the Metformin is working too well.

Lunch at Wetherspoons today (Curry Club).

Strange old day again with the only real gainer in the SIPP being GSK but not by enough to make much difference. -0.37% NG.(xd), PETS & UU. The pot did better at +0.26% thanks to AMS, AIEA & LGEN. In the case of AIEA, maybe people got excited receiving today's divi cheque and thought that warranted more!

Needed a bit more sun this afternoon to thoroughly test a bespoke exterior fitting we are doing which is totally battery operated and recharged from solar panels, but it still seemed to work OK which was encouraging!

Close To The Enemy tonight which we will record to watch The Apprentice for a bit more unrealistic business shenanigans. I see Nick Hewer has suggested they keep candidates in the process according to their "appeal" - as if we didn't already know that!

+0.17% for today, [FTSE250 -0.18%]

Highest value risers : CSN +8.7%, GVC +1.6%, GSK +1.2%, BGO +1.4%.

Worst value fallers NG. -2.3%[xd], HICL -1.2%[xd], MARS -2.8%, HDS -1.5%.

The market certainly liked CSN's acquisition, shall be taking up my quota plus the excess application offer.

VOD was also XD faller today, added some more MARS obviously mistimed it again, but their Staffordshire IPA sold in M&S is quite habit forming!

Can't get excited about the Chancellor's new saving bond for 2017, think I'll stick to buying some more premium bonds.

S&P500 earnings turn positive again for first time since Q1/2015 - but are P/Es getting a bit stretched? (See page 27)

Amazing images of skiing in the Pennines when we are having quite a mild spell down here. Mind you, a friend in Perth tells me they had -10°C last night!

Skinny, interesting article on the Predatory bacteria. First reaction was of concern what happens later on when we find out they have a nasty side effect and we are now full of them, but then the article mentions we already have some in our bodies?

On the face of it I can't quite understand market reaction to what appear reasonable results from PETS? Would take the opportunity to top up but no cash until the CRX proceeds come in.

Re Essentra ESNT [formerly Filtrona] : recent profit warning, noted by Aleman here.
Shares Mag have featured the Co in it's latest issue 'Essentra is too good to ignore' and 'risks remain but offers decent upside'.

Notice it yields 5.5%, share price is -3.5% this morning.

Prof X. I still hold SIV. It seems a company that is succesfully making a transition to a modern online/mobile/other growth sector from old school print and marketing, while expanding its international trading. It is modestly valued on earnings and cashflows and pays a well covered dividend but there are concerns. Debt is highish, the blance sheet is negative net of intangibles, and the pension liabilities are sizeable and could get worse in a downturn (why are wage rises estimated at zero?). I think it could do well although have concerns about how it might manage a recession and the amount of charges that seem to crop up regularly that are removed from "adjusted" figures while statutory showed a loss last time. So, good yield and cheap on cashflows, with interesting growth prospects, but possibly quite vulnerable to recession.

SIV went ex-dividend today. They are down only 2.5p after paying out 5.45p.

bl - sad to hear about the winding up petition. I didn't know. It's very hard to break out of those downward spirals after over spending. It can take years. The new spending caps should help matters greatly but many clubs still have legacy issues. You have my sympathies. Watching such a decline is painful. Good luck for a trunaround.

Bit drier today but sun still not come out yet. Need it to hold dry until tomorrow if I am to clear leaves away.

Aleman, only one win at home this season so far, supporters are voting with their feet, I'm afraid. Those that do attend are hard pressed to find anything to cheer about, plus yet another winding up petition by HMR&C is looming.

Ex dividend factors hitting mine this morning.

CSN acquisition RI/OO accommodates me & terms look worth taking up, market seems to agree it's a good deal.

Good Morning.

Nail biter for the penultimate episode of The Missing last night!

Aleman, don't want to speak too soon, but I get the impression our market is waking up a bit from the gloom we have seen over the last couple of months. One large project we thought had died has come back to life, albeit they are asking for fixed price through 2017 to early 2018 which will be fun as it involves large euro purchases!

-0.14% today.

Worst value fallers : IHC -4.8%, BRSN -2.4%, MANX -2.4%,

Highest value risers : BLT +2.2%, BA. +2.2%, MCLS +2.3%

Looked very positive this morning, didn't last. Holding a decent size in a smallcap will bite you back at times, today was one of those.

Continued misty drizzle this morning & again this evening, 7C max.

Local weather forecaster isn't expecting a prolongued cold spell as portrayed in the media, just periods of wintry weather.

Must say last night football was one of the worst ever performances by Notts County at home, attendance of just 2300 [home supporters] tells it's own story.

I'm down -0.125% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.029%).

Worst falls: TSCO -2.42%, ADM -2.08% and BT.A -1.62%.

Best rises: S32 +3.85%, CPG +2.19% and BLT +2.17%.

Another good day for miners. CPG bounced back some after yesterday's fall. Bad news for insurers in the Financial Statement. UU. reported finals and went up! Quelle surprise.

Over to Tonbridge for lunch today, with MrsDF's school friend and her son, our godson. It stayed fine all day, contrary to the forecast.

Thanks for that link Skinny. I was a little bit concerned others would follow and try to tempt me away, but I am a Jag man really and after seeing those images I reckon it knocks spots off all the competition anyway - and it's British!

Aleman, strange day indeed. Not many real fallers but DX. made them count! SIPP <-0.41% DX., SPD & NG. but the pot managed +0.13% thanks to AMS, RR. & AIEA.

Had confirmation from CRX earlier that the loan notes will be redeemed as I hoped, ie converted to shares at 60p each which will then be bought back for 160p each - very nice!

Shopping this evening, Sainsbury's turn. Must get back for The Missing!

Strange day. Gold price dopped sharply as bond yields everywhere spiked. I opened up unexpectedly at +1.0% and immediately started downward. Closed at -0.6%. DX. headed down again at around -7%. It didn't take long to forget the contract news.

There was plenty of blue sky about but the sun refused to come out from behind the clouds. We must have had about 10 minutes of sun all day. The leaves did not dry out enough to have a go at collecing them. It was fairly pleasant at 8.1C, though, despite being only average for the time of year. Rather typiically, the clouds have disappeared now and we are already near the low forecasted for tonight. With a forecasts of clear skies and a 5 mph northerly, I'm curious how the temperature can hold up to 4C, but we'll see.
