Nothing unusual there but Eurasian winter is still advancing early so Northern hemisphere is snowier than recent years overall:

Lying snow over Scotland led to some pretty cld temperatures last night.

Here's a good tool. Snow predictions. Click 78 hours ahead and see settled snow over the Western UK and Cornwall! Go further ahead and there is significant snow in Spain and Algeria - in November! Mind you, it's just a forecast.

Skinny, that is a ridiculously low price even for Chinese products so I wouldn't expect tremendous quality. We would have trouble making one fitting for that price in this country, let alone a set of 10 with a transformer! I would take the term "ultra bright" with a large dose of salt as it says each fitting has just one SMD LED. To give you an idea, I would expect to see around 36 of those in a typical indoor downlight! For that price, if you are just looking to have some little "marker" lights dotted around your decking then these would probably do the job, but don't expect to be able to see where you are going! You will see the lights but nothing else! I have never heard of that company and they are not "Ltd" so it could just be a bloke working out of his shed. It's just too easy to create a fancy looking website, but £20 isn't much to risk I guess, although just be prepared to chuck them away when they start failing!

Be careful what you wish for, MrP. Some reports suggest the Euro is falling because of fears of potentially very serious fallout from the Italian referendum.

Sleeting on and off this morning. They are probably getting significant snow to mid-altitudes after a couple of inches of snow yesterday on the hilltops. It's the second widespread snow of the year and not even December, although this does not look like lingering either.

Electrocomponents trading is usually a good indicator of general activity in various regions. It seemed to be firing well on all fronts.

I'm having trouble forming a picture of what is happening. Some news is gloomy and some is very good. Mixed might not sound so bad but all was fairly good in 2014 and 2015 so mixed is a deterioration. Normally, things accelerate down quite quickly (while upturns tend to be more slowly ground out). I can't see I am seeing things getting notably worse so I am wondering if we are seeing some unusual kind of modest slowdown thanks to the mining/commodities and engineering recession hitting early and ending before everything else could slowdown significantly. I would imagine the consumer would still dominate so rising interest rates and defaulting should still be the dominant driver - and yet deeriorating news there doesn't seem to be feeding through into retail sales somehow. I still tend to think the downturn will come soon, especially with all the uncertaintly over these EU votes, and yet pockets of strength are confounding my gloomy expecations. What will 2017 bring?

wllm, it was a pleasant surprise to me as I had no idea it was on its way. Still very tempted to put my name down but the other half is keeping me on the side of "sensible" at the moment. I was going to point out its nothing compared to the price of a new boat, but I'm not sure that will help my argument!

Morning All.

Back to my usual 2/7 this week, and I knew one of those!

The £ has continued it's recovery after I have filled up our Euro account on the way up! Just hoping this is a long term recovery and not a short term blip, or we are going to see some hefty price increases.

I had never heard of the I-Pace MrP, what a lovely piece of kit. The F-Pace SUV is really nice too, although I might need to wait on some affordable used models hitting the market.

I'm up +0.915% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.667%).

Best rises: IMI +3.72%, BT.A +3.11% and BLND +2.95%.

Worst falls: INDV -1.74%, LLOY -0.71% and BA. -0.42%.

IMB and MKS went XD today, but both ended within a penny of their previous closing price. BLND reversed yesterday's fall, and vice versa for INDV. Still a lot of volatility about.

+5°C this morning, with some high cloud, By 11 we had rain, but by 3pm it had gone away. The car said +9°C on the way home from Probus. We had a good talk about the future of Naval Aviation. The new carriers and all that. Very interesting.

-0.1%.

Sleety rain showers with an odd late glimpse of sun. 7.1C after 3.7C. Feels set to be chilly tonight.

No. 2 and 3 looking a bit better. I'm not there yet so no quiz for a second week.

Turning colder and some really biting rain now.

Better day for the SIPP at +0.40% thanks to CTO, UU. & BP. amongst a few others. Only three fallers in the pot but they worked harder than the gainers resulting in -0.27% RR., LLOY & SGC

The Apprentice tonight, part of which was filmed at the Poole boat show and I'm guessing it was the day we were there as it was pouring with rain! With it being so wet, we had our heads down so wouldn't have noticed a film crew!

EDIT: And of course Close to the Enemy which we will record to enjoy another night!

Two extracts from Royal Mail results:

Marketing mail revenue was down eight per cent. Uncertainty leading up to and after the EU Referendum led to a reduction in overall UK marketing activity.

Letter volumes, particularly advertising letter volumes, are linked to movements in GDP and we are monitoring developments in the UK economy closely.

So ... just a blip?

-0.2% for me yesterday.

The short feverish spell has cleared after a week of cold but 3 of us still have lingering gastric issues. I'm told the doc's says for people with sickness and runs not to go to their doctor The system needs chnging when doc's say stay away because you are ill. Maybe the clinic needs splitting into into sick, old and healthy areas or days.

Good luck with the foot, bl.

-0.64% for the Folio [FTSE250 -0.56%].

Worst value fallers : IAP -10.6%, IRV -7.5%, CLIG -6%, CSN -2.5%, MCL -5.4%.

Highest value risers : IGR +3.7%, KNOS +5.8%, HMLH +3.3%, ASY +2.9%, HSD +1.9%.

Some hefty falls again, IAP coming off badly after results, but the smaller caps helped for once.

I'm down -0.617% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.633%).

Worst falls: S32 -2.36%, BLND -2.31% and CLLN -2.19%.

Best rises: TATE +1.34%, INDV +1.18% and DGE +0.75%.

Predictably BLND fell after decent results. It seems to be normal these days. Wall Street had an immediate big fall when it opened, which must have some effect. IMB and MKS go XD tomorrow.

I went for a haircut this morning, but the barbers was closed. Maybe next week.

The early rain had moved away before I went out this morning, +10°C then and back there now.

Mozy has raised the very interesting issue of rising bond yields and the problem Trump may have, on paying the interest on same.

As I mentioned in my first post after Trump had won the Presidential vote, the thing to do is remove the monopoly the Federal Reserve bank has over the issue of new Dollars.
At the present the FED has a monopoly over the issue of dollars so that when the US govt wants dollars it has to pay interest on them to the FED which is a private bank.
Since the FED has printed those dollars effectively just contacting the US mint and telling them to print some more dollars, it is earning interest on Sweet FA.

As I said in my previous post what Trump needs to do is remove the the FEDs monopoly to issue dollars and take that under govt control.
The last President to try this was Kennedy and he was assinated shortly after putting the appropriate legislation to congress. This is not to suggest the two are linked just that the coincidence resulted in that piece of legislation not getting passed.

Of course no govt should ever resort to the printing press in a profligate way, however if the economy is otherwise demand deficient and there is spare capacity in the economy to take up the slack, considerd and limited printing should produce no inflationary problem.
