Gold seems to be being hammered when New York opens, same trend for several days now.

As well as UU. SVT and NG. have also been hammered.

Oil is still rising, £ still falling, but less so against the Swiss franc.

FTSE should be breaking out but is not doing so, I think it may be what Theresa is saying.

Possibly other factors.

Colder now but wind not as strong.

Large tomato is starting to turn from green to pink, flowers still out.

Have been to the optician and have been prescribed specs with a decent prism as well as the astigmatism and shortsightedness correction. Have just picked them up and they are making an awesome difference. Basically I no longer have multiple images before my eyes. I should have got this done (the prism that is) 40 years ago. I think this had a significant effect on my education.

FWIIW hold a finger upright in front of your eyes, look at it with your right eye then with your left eye, then look at it with both eyes. Try this at several distances. If you see more than one image you may have a problem. When reading newspapers do you see multiple images and jump between them particularly when your eyes are tired?
Do you sometimes hit the wrong key when typing, hitting the key next door?
Do you read or look at screens with one eye, shutting the other or covering it?

If the answer to these questions is yes tell an optician about it DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO FIND IT.

That would be a sad loss to Leeds Aleman.

Looks like a complete re-run of yesterday, same fallers, similar amount.

Sheesh - pound now $1.262 and just over Euro 1.13.

My dad worked here a long time ago and I still know a bit about it. This IS likely to happen and will be bad for Leeds. It's highly capital intensive and pays well. There will be significant knock-on effects to suppliers and local businesses.

Ironically, oil is looking perky again at nearly $52.

Morning All.

We only saw 15.8°C yesterday but it was a lovely day with wall to wall sunshine and still 13.18kwh from the solar pv with 3.46kwh of that going to the immersion heater. A chilly low of 7.6°C last night, but still fairly bright this morning.

Just had to buy a few USD at the worst rate ever 1.2743 so that will increase our costs. Still avoiding Euros but I need some by the end of next week.

Managed to hang on to some of yesterday's gains but going down -1.15%.
[FTSE250 -0.77%]

Worst value fallers : NG. -2%, UU -4.4%, BEZ -1.7%.

Highest value riser : MCLS +1.8%.

Tobacco stocks suffered as well as Russia possibly to raise cigarette taxes. Have reduced my IMB holding recently though by taking some worthwhile profits.

RBC downgraded United Utilities to ‘underperform’ from ‘sector perform’, also on valuation, noting 4% implied total return, but lifted the price target to 1,000 from 975p.

How can they downgrade it but give a higher price target at the same time? Then the price falls below their original (lower) price target!

Bad luck, MrP. +0.1% for me and a new high, I think. Still probably a little follow through from the weak pound offsetting some minor losses. MCLS keep creeping up. Been on a good run of late.

Mostly sunny again but not feeling quite so warm thanks to a cool breeze. I was surprised to find the thermometer actually reached 17.5C.

Just made a big pan of mash to go with a casserole. I was disappointed to find I used up a whole bag of spuds. I checked to find the weight of the bag was only 1.75Kg. The supermarkets keep shrinking the size of everything!

Awful day for my lot, with the SIPP falling by a shocking -1.24% thanks to UU., SSE & NG. whilst the pot almost held it's own at -0.09% nearly all due to SGC

Shopping at TSCO again tonight to use up some vouchers, then back for Our Girl whilst recording DCI Banks.

A lot of the fish were hooverd up by foreign boats fishing right close inshore. Not so easy to catch fish beach fishing these days, if you catch bass they have to be put back.
This is why we need to get back our fishing waters and ban foreign boats.

The gold market has been interesting, I think there may be some nuggets of truth in this article though I do not like King World News.

freddie, that just goes to show how ridiculous the current quota system is where perfectly good fish are discarded (dead) back into the sea when there are poorer families crying out for them. We make sure we get our regular fill of fish, but I guess we're not regarded as a poor family. Mind you, it's cheap enough to catch them yourself if you have access to a beach!

Utilities taking a bashing today, and my top up on INTU yesterday wasn't too well timed!

Oil still breaking upwards out of that triangulation I posted. That and a weak £ is a bad combination for petrol prices and CPI. CPI is already set to go way above its 2% target this winter and the latest developments with oil and sterling will aggravate that further. Why are the B of E not talking about it and guiding reactions, now? No doubt markets will ignore it and then overeact in about 4-6 months..

I can live with 1.20 which I think is about right, although we averaged 1.37 overall last year! The only good news with the $ rate is it will increase the price of Chinese imports which is no bad thing. Our failing is we don't export enough so I really do need to explore that without further delay!

All yesterday's gains (and more) long gone now.

The Euro rate I can understand - you may recall I repeatedly said above Euro 1.20 was too high but said I would never bet on it as forex can remain out of line for years. The strong $ now seems out of line to me, though. That's a risk off trade. Last time, unusual $ strength indicated excess demand for $ liquidity from European banks that were in trouble and buying $s in forex markets to meet derivatives and other requirements. The Fed let a few get into trouble before it decided it was threatening US banks so could provide liquidity outside the US. Is this an indicator of troubles in the pipeline?

DF, enjoy your cruise, should be a lovely exit from The Solent, you should have blue skies and bright sunshine when you leave around 4:30 albeit a bit breezy. Unlikely to get the chance, but I'll give you a wave if we manage to get out there!

I'm up +1.219% on the day today (FTSE100 +1.300%).

Best rises: PSON +5.18%, IMI +3.48% and BA. +2.63%.

Only 4 fell: UU. -0.55%, AZN -03.32%, BLND -0.08% and NG. -0.05%.

Nudging those all time highs again. Dollar earnings obviously help.

Radio silence for a couple of weeks now, as we sail on Arcadia tomorrow.

Keep things going while I'm away.

Great gain there Aleman!

Ummm, mixed emotions at present. The falling £ is really hurting the business so I now have to pass on the extra cost. But the markets are loving it and I can't complain at seeing the SIPP at yet another all time high after a +0.84% gain today thanks to top risers BP., GSK & HFEL/SSE. The pot went one better and managed +1.30% on the day thanks largely to AIEA with help from several others led by LGEN & RR.

Lovely lunch on board today, and plenty of sunshine this afternoon.

National Treasure this evening, what revelations will that bring?

Quite a gain for me at +1.8% - but is it sustainable on a weak £? Nice near-10% rise at SIV on results.

Sun felt warm again despite strengthening breeze. 18.5C after 8.9C.

Gold $1277 and falling.
All charts I have looked at show £ having broken lower.
Dow seems volatile.
Silver following gold.
