Palm oil companies heavily in demand in Singapore today:

"The biggest gainers of the day were palm oil producers, following news that Russia might be raising import tariffs for tropical oils in June.

According to CIMB, importers in Russia might accelerate purchases of tropical oil, including palm, before the tariff is raised, pushing crude palm oil prices higher in the short term."

Interesting article re strong palm oil demands....

'Experts in Oil World, a German analysis firm, believe that global palm oil consumption for the year to October will rise substantially from last year and will outstrip supply by about a million tonnes.'

'The recent strength of demand for palm oil has been bolstered by factors elsewhere that have affected production of soya bean oil - the chief cooking alternative in many Asian countries. Argentina's output has been hit by drought, and some observers expect further contraction of South American supply as strikes by farmers make their mark.'

Good news all round!

Works fine for me... and been working fine for years following CPO prices, delayed by 15mins. I am very weary 2 day old headlines from palmoilhq as they are often pretty useless and out of date by the time they are published ...

FYI, FCPO April09 futures settled at 2417RM. Timed April 10, 6:05pm Malaysia time.

Crude palm oil (CPO) futures prices on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended on a six-month high yesterday on market talk that end-March palm oil stock is going to be lower than expected, dealers said. "The stock is expected to be lower than 1.4 million tonnes, which fuelled sentiment of a possible a squeeze in global vegetable oil

Malaysian crude palm oil futures soared 5.1 per cent to a fresh 6-month peak yesterday, boosted by rising oil prices and fears of a supply squeeze, traders said.

It was a great recovery at the end. I hope it continues now that it has breached 300p.

not so flat at the close...;)

I am in here quite deep from mid Q4 08 and I note that this evening my holding is only down 5.66%. Given where the FTSE is c/f with then, that is a very good recovery.
