If they were to make next year's entire Glastonbury Festival a tribute to him, that wouldn't be an excessive gesture. And there certainly wouldn't be many bands or artists who would decline an invitation.

DJ LEGEND JOHN PEEL DIES

Veteran disc jockey John Peel has died on a working holiday in Peru, the BBC has announced. He was 65.

He was in the ancient Inca city of Cuzco when he suffered a heart attack.


The veteran presenter, who discovered dozens of major bands during 40 years of broadcasting, was with his wife Sheila.

Peel presented the award-winning Radio 4 programme Home Truths and a late night weekday show on Radio 1.

Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt said: "John Peel was a broadcasting legend. I am deeply saddened by his death, as are all who work at Radio 1.

"John's influence has towered over the development of popular music for nearly four decades and his contribution to modern music and music culture is immeasurable.

"Hopeful bands all over the world sent their demo tapes to John knowing that he really cared.

"His commitment and passion for new music only grew stronger over the years. He will be hugely missed."

Peel, born in 1939, was one of Britain's original pirate radio disc jockeys in the 1960s. Peel was his assumed "pirate" name.

In the late 1970s he championed punk rock to the consternation of many of his radio contemporaries.

They were still playing rock supergroups and were convinced the new music fad would never had any real impact.

Peel - an authority on independent music - was honoured as an Order of the British Empire.

Hooya, I saw Joy Division at The Factory a month before Curtis topped himself, they also played Altrincham of all places in Nov 78. Listening to The Rapture album - Echoes at the mo.

Re: my Friend's Sister Lucie SIvas....she not only got single and album of the week on Radio 2 but she entered the chart an No 14 which is great stuff for a first single and considering the other releases this week.

I didn't think it was as good as "Into the Valley" but there is a similarity. If he released that 20 years ago it might do well but now it sounds a bit dated. Shame he couldn't continue with Blur, as I think his guitar and Damon Albarn's song writing skills were a fantastic combination.

Well being the oldest rocker in town I dont understand much of the recent BB talk, so lets get back to business. Now then, I have just had swiped off me 73% of my holding.So I reckon I must be owed about £600 Quid. Has anyone got any idea when we might get our cheques. Sorry to spoil the fun chaps, but I think the graphics are brilliant anyway.
