Why would anyone be interested in stepping in now to re-finance the business, when they can just wait until Christams and cherry-pick the assets in the fire sale when the comapnay goes bust? Is that what the directors are planning to do?
You would have to be brave to be holding these right now...

In discussions with interested parties with regard to re-financing the business...

...Progress with our customer base is slower than expected ...

...the Company has, however, experienced slower than anticipated development of the market for consumer head mounted displays. Against this backdrop, the Board is reviewing its strategic options for the financing of the Company, which may include considering proposals for an offer for the Company....

...a key element underpinning these cash flow forecasts is the completion of a corporate transaction to re-finance the business. Although the directors are in discussions with interested parties, there can be no certainty that a transaction will occur, and should it not go ahead, the Group's existing cash resources are likely to be exhausted by mid-December 2008.

I'm having a good day with KIM.

Maybe MED will do the same for me in the near future.

Worth a check I would think. May only find that it's the CEO's PC that comes up positive......

If an IT person checked all PC's at MED do you think anyone there would be concerned about a trail showing regular visits to this thread?

May seem unrelated, but all of MED's senior management were once senior management of Freescale/Motorola. They are NOT to be trusted.

Thanks for the confirmation.

It is as I expected. Image retention is the biggest issue MED face. Even if they can convince their customers to write software to move this image around the display by 8 or 9 pixels they are still going to have a hard time selling this product into anything other than portable movie players.

Selling into the mobile phone or PDA market will have major issues for image retention. Icon rich contents such as these will always be burned into the display. moving the image will only soften the boundary, it won't remove it. However, it may help in mobile TV, but again, you'll have to navigate through icon rich mobile phone menu pages to turn on the mobile tv in the first place.

I think product designers will be very wary of warrenty return issues when they get a sample product from MED as they don't want customers sending products back after 6 months because the displays are covered in burned in icons. Factoring in low yields i think that MED will either have to set a high selling price to cover warrenty replacements or they will run at a loss. Given that LCD is more mature and can deliver high resolution at low cost, I think that they will win out for now.

Looks to me like MED's days are number!!

POled.

The luminance of the device decays the most in the first 50-60 minutes of being switched on. The decay is recoverable to some extend, if the device is switched off and allowed to cool for several hours, but is never entirely recoverable. To prevent this initial Luminance decay being 'passed on' to customers the devices are planned to be Burned In for this 60 minute period before being shipped. The device luminance continues to decay throughout it's active lifetime with slight recovery every time the device is inactive.

This Burn In also helps with image retention, which I think you are calling image sticking. Image retention is a problem in most display technologies, but is a big problem in POLED technology. Burn in of devices helps because it removes that first portion of high luminance decay and so any burn in is less pronounced due to the luminance 'contrast' not being so high after operational use and further decay. Smart use of the device can help with image retention too - you can move images around on the display so that pixels are being switched on and off rather than being permanently on or off for long periods. This can be done without being noticed by the viewer.

As for yields, the wafer yield sits at around 40%. Defectivity is the biggest hitter - ie. particles on displays. There is a manufacturing technique that has been tried and tested that greatly helps with this problem (and several others) but it has been subject to severe resistance by operational management - the engineers developed the solution without management involvement, so they don't want it to see the light of day until it has effectively been 'laundered' and pops out as their idea.

Hyper,

Both sources of information are personal contacts that I will not disclose.

The reason I am voicing the rumour is that I believe that gninraW may be able to verify it as he seems quite close to the company.

"The yield is terrible"

Can you quote a source on the internet that states this? if not what is the source for your info?

What is the source of your rumour? If it's a rumour why are you spreading it.

Can we debate the facts?

gninraW,

I completely agree with you. MED have too many managers who have more interest in power struggles than managing the issues at hand.

The yield is terrible and that is purely on defect yield. As far as I am aware, they still arn't yielding devices on picture quality (colour reproduction device to device and colour point etc) can you comment?

Also, I had heard a rumour that they we burining in devices to try to resolve the image sticking problem. Is this fact or fiction and can you confirm if they have a real image sticking problem?

Looks like they are trying to hang on in there, but I wonder how much longer the cash will last, and where more cash will come from once they run out...

I think you can appreciate that I wouldn't give anything away as to sources etc. I can only assure you that my sources are very reliable. As for my user name, the only reason that it is Warning backwards is because Warning itself had already been taken.

MED will be out of cash within 3-4 months, so they need to raise cash somehow. Don't think they can go cap in hand to the market again.....
