18/1/2008 10:21 | I was worried that I'd got the wrong chart for Iberdrola, but this answers my question: Portfolio ActivityWe took profits in some of our more expensive solar holdings and we participated in the IPO of Iberdrola Renovables. | gsands
18/1/2008 10:17 | Garth, Very good points. Looking at the chart above one can clearly see the sharp market corrections of May 2006 and July/August 2007. This is just the latest in the series. Importantly though, the fund continues to trend up with higher highs and higher lows. In fact recently when the S&P 500 could not manage a higher high, MNE did. This is a positive display of relative strength. I am looking to add very soon. | gsands
18/1/2008 09:49 | Thanks Garth, bit dissapointed the company didnt use this chart in their annual report. Reality checks are very important for Investment Managers and private investors IMHO. | praipus
18/1/2008 07:23 | GSands, Thanks for the work with the charts. I've just added the link to my old thread header (which I still use at times to reference changes to top 10 holdings). Perhaps Wiganer could do the same here if he is still around? I suggest folks consider the chart for the period of MNE's existence and put recent falls in context. When the markets rock, so does this. Many new energy companies are on significant price earnings multiples and, while long term this has got be a pretty safe investment theme, short term reality checks still need to be made. IMO. 17/1/2008 23:44 | I have placed all the charts on this thread. Hopefully they will update from day to day. I am not sure about the chart I have for Iberdrola Renovables Spain. It seems to be a new listing and I'm not sure if that is right? | gsands
17/1/2008 23:18 | It is just the general sell-off, it might continue to fall for a little while yet but the medium-term value of the sector is very strong. | cyberbub

17/1/2008 22:27 | I suppose that anything with the name Merrill Lynch is bound to get even more of a kicking than it deserves at the minute. | cyberbub
17/1/2008 22:21 | Cyberbub, You're looking too deep. Just look at the chart above and tell me how MNE's holding could not have fallen in unison? Worrys about expanding the fund and Merrill financial problems as a business are wide of the mark. | gsands
17/1/2008 22:18 | "Jan. 17, 2008, 1:53PM Merril Lynch absorbs record $10 billion loss Associated Press NEW YORK Merrill Lynch & Co. today recorded its biggest quarterly loss since being founded 94 years ago after the world's largest brokerage took almost $15 billion worth of write-downs from bad subprime mortgage bets." 17/1/2008 22:16 | Well look at the US market where most of MNE's holdings are listed. It's quite obvious why MNE has been falling so hard: | gsands
17/1/2008 22:14 | Can anyone tell us more about the share issue?! How many, what price etc. Depressing drop in recent days. But the medium-term prospects must still be good! | cyberbub
17/1/2008 22:03 | New share issue combined with bad debts incurred by Merrill Lynch US division and gloomy economy prospects, credit squeeze and inflation all taking its toll. I thought I had done well to buy back in below 70p. If this goes under 60p, I'll buy some more! | cher price
17/1/2008 15:28 | This action is a bit too straight down for my liking. | gsands
16/1/2008 18:12 | Has anyone got any further update on the new share issue? | cyberbub |
