Taken a position; good value, strong cash position, dividend paying, strong positive outlook and setting new 52 week highs (bullish signal imo). With the upcoming pension reforms, this should boost their business significantly and I feel getting in now is the best way to capitalise on their rising profits.

Implies it's good news for Mattioli Woods as well & they are a lot cheaper than HL + much smaller, so scope for massive growth.

Think this company could be FTSE 250 material at some point. Few year's off, but they have a good record.

no longer hold MTW - if I did I'd be concerned about revolutionary pension budget comments today from osborne (see JRG/PA./LGEN etc.).

Yes, very exciting results. Interesting comments about "building our new style 21st century financial services business" + the launch of a UK REIT which I might be interested in investing at the outset. All looks like the business is firing on all cylinders. Lots of further scope for growth by the looks of things. I guess Hargreaves Landsdowne is what they are aiming at!

Looking through SLS annual report I see Harry Nimmo has started building a holding. Very encouraging as he only picks what he calls "resilient UK smaller companies". Puts MTW in very good company with others in his portfolio.

Nice rise today on the back of Blackrock increasing its holdings to above 11%.

Very good results today and big increase in the dividend. This is starting to look very good indeed with £4bn of AUM.

I've bought a few of these today. Looks a pretty well placed business for RDR with £3bn under management and a fairly competent team. Looking for 40p EPS in five years, which would result in a share price a few times higher than it is today.

The investment torpor that characterised the first half of MTW's year may be lifting given the recent more buoyant markets. For example, my stockbroker friend says dealing volumes in his business for Jan & Feb are running at twice the average of Oct, Nov & Dec. More investor confidence should be good for MTW.

I also feel this business will be a beneficiary from the Retail Distribution Review as more IFAs get squeezed out. And I think its discretionary fund management activity, when launched, will be a plus. We'll see.

Lovely quiet thread this. Always the best sort.

I reckon the current price provides a very decent entry point to a proven, steady, dividend-paying growth stock. I'm in.

"Themes for 2011

Jim Slater is struggling to find much value in the UK market at present. 'The UK looks very expensive, with very few bargains around,' he says. By contrast, he believes that China will keep growing but at a slower rate and that the US should have a good year.

He still likes Cape and gives a mention to Entertainment One, a film and television distributor that has done well from the likes of Peppa Pig and Twilight. The current rights library spans all media formats and includes more than 20,000 film and television titles, 2,400 hours of television programming and 45,000 music tracks. Despite the stellar share price performance over the past year, Slater feels that the stock has much further to run. Indeed, Peel Hunt expects EPS growth in 2011 of a robust 22 per cent. Other UK shares he likes include Mattioli Woods and 21st Century, and he has a substantial investment in his son Mark's Slater Growth Fund.

Slater remains bullish on gold and can see the metal hitting $1,700 an ounce. His optimism is for three reasons. First is the advent of exchange-traded funds (ETF's), which allow the 'man in the street' to invest in gold funds rather than directly via, say, gold coins. Another factor is that the Chinese government has been actively encouraging its population to buy gold, and the final reason is the strength of gold as a store of value when so many world currencies are 'doubtful'."
