My own straw poll (go to several local stores) suggests the stores are very busy in food and I hear costs are being slashed. Positive imo esp at this price.

why don't they split the company into two: food (good) and Clothing and pensions and leases (bad). then in a few years time liquidate the clothing bit. you only have to go into the clothing section to realise youneed tobe over 60. avoid.

Wouldn't worry about it, share price has been here before,if your trading on stops, whats the problem... it happens, if your a long term holder an excellent divi....these are like the RIO Tinto of the shopping sector, last to get hit, probably first to recover. And if your a shorter, well done you!

S..S....D...Day!

Very easy to buy when everyone loves something, feels safe being part of a
consensus and crowd- but can be one of the worst times as often marks a top.
MKS near £6 there was not a bearish view in sight.

Far more difficult to think for yourself and have the guts to go against
the crowd, it can be very profitable if the business concerned is
fundamentally sound, that should be IF in capitals as an important proviso.

Non farm payrolls knocking sentiment across the board this afternoon after a better MKS this morning. Sideways trading for me until this autumn statement regarding the property portfolio 340p - 360p rangebound. Can't see where the positive drivers are at the moment.

libertine - honestly, I don't care what your opinion on the matter is and I am not sure why you are choosing to continue to fuel the argument. I had an opinion, albeit a long shot and it was wrong. What else do you want me to say? What is it with the castigation culture on this board? What else do you want me to do? Why are you continuing to fuel this?

So heated on this thread. M&S normally conservative is sparking lively debate rarely seen on this thread.

Eisler

If you make rash statements to gain attention then you must expect to receive that attention, when it proves to be stupid.

A good teacher is one that points out when a student is being stupid to the rest of the class, in order to stop that student from continuing to be stupid, and the rest of the class from copying them.
