Found this interesting from another site
Silverwood- to your mining point by Pining 4 the Fjords

Regarding mining, one interesting tidbit from TF's interview last week with Brent Cook (highly experienced mining geologist, very professional, no-nonsense 30 year pro) was a side comment he made that really made me sit up and take notice. His investment strategy for seeking and rating mining companies is designed to be somewhat immune to gold price fluctuations, he is one of those pros who takes emotion out of it and just sees gold as stuff in the ground you get out at X grams per ton of ore, extraction cost X$ per ton, geologic layer should project to be be X meters thick, etc. His approach is to A. identify mid-tier producers that own large, proven reserves, put value to those reserves the way the biggest mining companies would, then B. calculate the buyout potential and buy the best of those companies. The big boys need ounces and proven reserves, and have to get them somewhere, and they have no choice but to buy these companies sooner or later, period.

Anyway, his comment was this- For the last 15 years, the top 5 mining companies in the world have been producing roughly 90 tons of gold for every 40 tons of new, proven mineable reserves discovered, anywhere, period. They have bought all the good reserves, mined most of them, and bought out all the good mid-tier companies, so Brent and his partner are now having to buy much smaller companies way down the food chain because those are the only proven companies with reserves of any size left.

Coming from such a no BS, no hype guy like that, I was pretty amazed... I know the stock to flow ratio is truly huge for gold, recycling is huge, etc., but still... profitable new supply is just not out there anymore, by and large. One would think this fact will have an effect at some point, the question is how old will we be when it happens?

Barry,

I doubt that selling has anything to do with assassination.
There is no question that 3 delays with PEA unsettled many.
2 different companies aligning their work is recipe for screw-up.
Well....Glen...

Then why release any RNS pr0t0n, a day after the shooting of the Russian Ambassador, shows Glen has know idea at all. Just allows those nervous holders an out position......

Chief Executive Officer Glen Parsons today commented:

"The continuity of these additional drill results at Hot Maden add further confidence in the main zone, with the 25m infill holes further support continuity of the high grade gold and copper mineralisation. These results all build into the Preliminary Feasibility Study model which is due for completion around mid next year, ultimately paving the way for mine development.

"Encouragingly the growth potential for the further extension to the main zone in of the offset block to the south as well as further interesting intercepts in the Sourthern Vein Field discovery area continues to be enhanced.

"Planned budgeted drilling for 2017 of 20,000m will be focussed on the areas that have been delivering to date, as well as the untested area to the south, the "Russian Mining area".

"The much anticipated PEA, although slightly delayed, is nearing completion and is expected to be delivered early in the New Year. I look forward to updating the market as soon as it is available."

Just seen a new interview with Rick Rule (CEO of Sprott) in which he says that new discoveries in 2017 will be bought out at 'eye popping prices'..I think Sprott own around 6% of Mariana

I think something is going on in the background which is holding back the news. I could understand if it was only the pea but the drill results are also not forthcoming. Something's up

This what Taylor Dart (Seeking Alpha) wrote early this Dec.:

'I believe they stated they were expecting more news from Hot Maden in their latest news release. I'm not too worried. I already have a good idea what the PEA should look like, and can't imagine costs coming in over 570 / oz all in. This should make it the lowest cost gold project in the world'

and

'I believe Mariana's ounces have a fair value of $325.00/oz compared to Ventana Gold's $366.66/oz. While I believe it is fair to place a 30% discount on Mariana's ounces compared to Ventana's due to country risk, 25% of this discount should be added back to account for grade disparity. Mariana Resources' grades are almost 400% higher than that of Ventana's with a resource that is almost the exact same size. This should make a significant difference when comparing cash costs for the two companies, and I expect the PEA should show all-in sustaining cash costs at Hot Maden of under $500/oz. By applying my fair value of $325/oz to Hot Maden, the project should have a value of $1.13 billion. This means Mariana's 30% ownership should be worth $341 million, more than double its current market capitalization. For this re-rating to occur, if my assessment is correct, Mariana Resources would command a share price of $2.85 (CAD).'

--

When the PEA does arrive along with further drill updates I believe or should I say I hope we should see some acquisition interest..

Post Fed meeting, the freefall in gold and gold stocks continues. It’s a perverse characteristic of investing that the narrative gets better as the market gets worse. Rick Rule believes that a 35-40% decline in gold stocks makes them 35-40% more attractive. He shares with Palisade a two part strategy for investors and speculators.

Part one: alpha investments in the best-of-the-best juniors, via private placement financings when available. The summer’s strong junior mining stock performance has now given way to falling prices. That means better value for prudent investors.

To a sophisticated, accredited investor, Q1 2017 should be superb because the aftermarket action- particularly in the junior gold sector- will be challenging.

Part two: beta investments when the market tone returns. Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) expose you to the direction of the market with little liquidity risk and greatly reduced individual company risk. Eventually gold will be cheap enough, and the confidence driving general securities markets will evaporate.

Rick is confident that while the price of gold mining companies have deteriorated 15% in a few days, the values improve with every trading session. He remembered to us that in 1975 the bullion market fell 50% from $200 to $100/oz, shook investors out, and then ran to $850/oz.
