takes a little time with these illiquid stocks and is in the hands of the market makers to decide how far the next level should go.

I would have thought 220p not unreasonable.

Well I bought in on that statement. Trading at less than 7x cashflow, net cash positive, earnings materially ahead and a PE (before upgrades) of 13. High recurring income and US exposure will also make them attractive to a US bidder or VC.

I also bought in - the fact that they predict that their FY earnings will exceed last year's, and so early in the year, represents a substantial upward "earnings surprise".

Good news for all Marcro 4 shareholders

Perhaps the long awaited re-rating will now follow?

Macro 4 sees FY underlying profit exceeding market expectations
LONDON (AFX) - Macro 4 PLC said its profit before tax, amortisation and
exceptionals for the half year to December 2004 will 'materially exceed' the
prior year's earnings and forecast full year profit ahead of market forecasts.

'The group's results have been helped by a significant increase in new business
... as well as tight management of costs,' Macro 4 said in a trading update.

It said the strong earnings had been achieved despite adverse foreign exchange
movements.

And then...................................................

There were as many posts on the thread as there was movement in the SP!

Now we have convergence of Bollingers, very tight, and MAs.
Last time share price was here was Feb'02, next res. is 260p, then 380p.

1,084,000 shares admited to the official list under the company's 2004 Executive Defered Share Incentive Plan; Quite a few times the average daily volume traded. Aberforth now account for 25% of issued capital.

Macro 4 rides out market downturn
Midas, Mail on Sunday
19 September 2004
EXPANDING a business in a sluggish market is a tough order, but software company Macro 4 has achieved the feat and looks well placed to deliver even more.
The company has a mature business selling software for mainframe computers and a newer division, Business Information Logistics, providing document management and archiving systems. Both have been operating in subdued markets.
But last week the firm, whose chief executive is Ronnie Wilson, showed it had risen to the challenge with a return to the black at the full year.
As well as fighting against the market, Macro 4 also has to manage a declining mainframe business as customers are simply not replacing these heavyweight machines, which have been superseded by new equipment.
Given these hurdles, the company's profit of £1 million, against a loss of £5.2 million the year before, was very creditable, and shareholders will receive a total dividend* of 6.5p. This is up from 6p, a figure that has remained unchanged for three years.
Cost control played a big part in the improvement, with the cost base - primarily staff - cut from £38.5 million to about £27.2 million in the past two years. A more efficient sales operation also helped boost returns.
Though the mainframe work is declining, it is highly cash generative, and Macro 4's cash balances more than doubled in the year to £8.4 million.
The shares at 195 1/2p value Macro 4 at £40.7 million and trade at 16 times forecast earnings per share* for this year. They offer a dividend yield* of more than three%.
Midas verdict: Macro 4 is in a transitional stage as it handles the decline of its mainframe business in favour of growth from Business Information Logistics, where customers include Nationwide building society and BMW. It is unlikely to get much help from its markets in the short term. Given this background and the fact Macro 4 is a small company, it must be viewed as a speculative share. But the price multiple is below the sector average and the raised dividend and cash balances give some security, so we would buy the shares.

Results better than I expected, even allowing for the trading update in April.
Profit at upper end of expectations £3.8M
Cash more than doubled £8.4M
Dividend increased by 12.5%
EPS 13.9p
So only on current P/E of 13.7 even after today's 7% rise.

And the royalty payment referred to in the April trading update -

"The Group's results have been helped by tight management of costs as well as the receipt of an exceptionally substantial royalty payment from its OEM agreement with IBM."

does appear to be ongoing, not a one off. From today's results.....

"helped by a strong performance from our OEM agreement with IBM which produced #1.5 million in new revenue in its first full year. "

In it's first full year, more to come next year. Will be interested to see what broker's forecasts will get upgraded to now. 16-17p EPS ?
