redbaron10...............Who knows what goes on inside the head of Moneybags.
I could tell you what I am going to do , and thus give the entire world markets the 'nod, but I would have to kill you after giving you the knowledge, to help preserve an entire world wide stock market collapse.

Anyway........We are out of kitty litter at this end, so off to the corner shop, before I cause another 1929 crash.

Elvis I agree current prices are a disaster, but for virtually all producers, not just Lonmin. The recent drop appears to have stabilised and given the macro supply/demand position a very good lift is more likely than your doom forecast.

I just want some clarity with the direction of the platinum price cudmore. We saw a run up to $1200oz in August which i presumed was partly demand based on its industrial use.Johnson Matthey shares rose, so i presumed it was on catalytic converter demand. Then when Fischer, the Fed deputy ,signalled a Fed rate hike at Jackson Hole in August, the dollar strengthened and the platinum price fell out of bed!We lost nearly $300oz in about ten weeks. The platinum rise was primarily due to speculation and ETF covering.Admittedly the platinum price overshot to the downside and now we are witnessing a recovery to a sensible level in my view.We are still at a record level for gold/platinum spread,so i believe pt should increase in price to maintain the spread.Unfortunately with all the speculators, and being in the dark somewhat about the quantities of stock above ground,it is very difficult to get an accurate pt price viz a viz supply/demand.That's why we need to keep an eye on China.China holds the key for platinum.I am quietly confident about demand because zinc (vedanta),Iron ore/coal(BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto) and copper (antofagasta, glencore,AAL) all have recovered significantly in the commodity space. If China manufacturing PMI data holds up tomorrow then demand is recovering.Hang in there cudmore,i am.

Cudmore, you make me laugh. It's like your fingers are programmed into some auto redial, you always say "can see these heading back to £2 or £2.50", never "I see these heading south for a while"!

Sometimes this Board has a most definite habit of selective reading trying to generate the positive. Did no-one see this in Ben's final paragraph of his statement "We must all now concentrate on improving productivity and reducing costs and ensuring a sustainable basis for future employment". In other words, the Rand Basket Pt price is going nowhere good and we are due for a sharp message next week that cost forecasts will go up again!

Yeah it looks very expensive and gives the impression that a professionally well-run company lies behind the sign.Dig (sorry for the pun) a little deeper and everything unravels! To be fair they are trying very hard in the turnaround plan.
