Ambrose Evans Pritchard in todays Telegraph.

French know that at peak times in the winter we rely on French electric energy.
UK are priority customers.

Brexit negotiations must be tough, if French cannot have priority to UK fishing grounds why should the French give us energy priority? they argue.

Who would be a Brexit negotiator?
No deal could mean chaos and blackouts.....perfect.

We cannot submit to that, but a deal could be done.
We have not got a stronger hand than the opposition.

As to the inability of ppl to conduct comments in the vernacular - of instead of have
and all the other current language.
That is the result of education being dictated to by txt speak.
Dress down - wear ur jeans helps not with image.
There is either a standard or anything goes.
There is either an astute presence in No 10 or a few women think they can dictate.
politics is brutal - cant live with it then go.
BJ she is out for control and u will lose bigtime.

k38 Try and realise that we are in 2020, not 1957.

As it happens, Lyndon Johnson was one guy who did get things done.

Education was what was available - it either built a platform for betterment or it led to a change of direction.
Plumbers and electricians were belittled - whilst media studies were all the rage.
Media studies are the reason for the destruction of argument.
PPL without an active involvement in work life help little in HOC.
The result no plumbers - they came from Poland.
There are so many Quangos linked to skill needs - yet none perform well and none are challenged.
Just like the NHS - utterly unable to manage a system of control - needs v costs - staff v customers.
Throw 50 billion and there will be no change.
And the corruptness of PPE contracts to near bankrupts beggars belief.
Yet we only hear about Cain and Cummings.

The point? Both statements are wholly factually accurate. Both statements are wholly misleading. Because the Democrats happened to be in power when major wars broke out does not mean they caused those wars. Because the Democrats happened to be in power when the economy was doing well does not mean they caused the economy to do well.

grahamite. Or let us leave it to Semantics.

Trump is going to get 7 million less in the popular vote and 83 less in electoral vote. But that does not mean he lost the election.

I bet you are wearing your red MAGA hat on backwards.

U.S. ELEX HISTORY MARRED BY FRAUD ALLEGATIONS. "Mail - in voting is fraught with the risk of fraud and coercion "The American political system wouldn't measure upto any sort of international standards for several reasons, lack of central commission capable of issuing uniform rules, lack of equal access to the media for all viable candidates and the inability to conduct recounts.Jimmy Carter (1977 - 1981)....2004 OHIO election John Kerry questions of the outcome if represent the will of the voters...and the Howard Dean (democratic national chair) agreed and said.."I'm not confident that the election in OHIO was fairly decided. We know that there was substantial voters suppression and the machines were not reliable. ...."In my experience in NY paper ballots are extremely susceptible to fraud.."Jerry Nadler (2004)....Lindon Johnson (1963 - 1969)Ended up winning a primary who is losing in TEXAS by just 87 votes. All thanks to the last minute appearance a ballot box all votes for Johnson... scandal at the time but took years for the truth to emerge. "Johnson did not win that election - it was stolen for him and I know exactly how it was done"Luis Sallas (election Judge)This is just a small example....

Gecko - "Ah London Nautical school, a second rate secondary school. :)"

You could say that, and I did fail my 11-plus, but I rated it highly: having morning parade and inspection did no harm; nor did rowing on the Thames; nor did learning the intricacies of celestial navigation - all alongside tackling the usual subjects.

Of course, that was just a precursor to a life at sea with all the adventures, good times and bad times that led me to learn how to live with others, fend for myself and accept others for what they are; so yes, I rate the whole experience highly.

Having said all that, looking back, I'd rather have left the sea after my apprenticeship ended, and become a musician and dancer, and done what gives me real pleasure.

History has shown that far from the Democrats being bad for the economy, when they were in power the US enjoyed far better growth than 'boom and bust' Republicans.

History has shown that when the Democrats were in power two world wars broke out and a major war in Korea.

The point? Both statements are wholly factually accurate. Both statements are wholly misleading. Because the Democrats happened to be in power when major wars broke out does not mean they caused those wars. Because the Democrats happened to be in power when the economy was doing well does not mean they caused the economy to do well.

From the Independent.

Trump’s refusal to concede defeat is sending shock waves around the world

Donald Trump’s refusal to concede in the 2020 presidential elections is prompting concern across the world, with officials in several countries voicing worry over the consequences of the outgoing president’s unsubstantiated insistence that fraud marred a vote praised by international observers.

The election last week gave Democrat Joe Biden a resounding victory in both the popular vote as well as the electoral college, which ultimately decides the winner of US presidential race. But because unprecedented millions of mailed ballots were counted late, Mr Trump showed early election day leads which were eroded. Mr Trump and his supporters baselessly claim the election was stolen, citing no evidence.
