09/10/2020 08:54 | The goal posts tend to move from inflation to jobs growth...and if jobs market is weak rates will stay low... Rates changes don't exist to keep the housing market going. The BoE's remit is to keep inflation around 2%. | diku

09/10/2020 08:44 | In gratitude for what geck. Acting like a colonial power does not win many friends . Best to part our ways as England is Going on inward journey at the moment . I wish England all the best in the path they choose, looking from afar and visiting over the last few years , the challenges it faces are many. Still could not believe how lawless Leicester was on my last visit. The lakes in comparison is beautiful so not all lost . Funny those who complain of anti English comments , regularly post anti Scottish statements . I guess there is morons on each side. | bargainbob

09/10/2020 08:28 | "xxxxxy Post 316432 "It is our problem. They are Family. Not just United Kingdom. We are married to each other" Given the constant anti English bashing that comes from Scotland they're hardly family, and I wouldn't lose any sleep if we cut them loose. It's what they want so fine. But in similar fashion the Shetlands and Orkneys must also get referenda on Independence from UK / Independence from Scotland.... | geckotheglorious

08/10/2020 22:16 | The Rotten Heart of Europe by Bernard Connolly This book may be a little bit historical, but the lessons it has for anyone interested in what "Europe" is are fascinating and well worth it. It may help if you understand "monetarism" and the jargon, but the text is accessible even if you don't. Coming to it after the UK's vote to leave the EU, I'm very glad we did, since all the same hidden agendas and quite different perceptions of what the EU is about are still entrenched - and they are not loaded in favour of the UK! He skims past the scams and corruption endemic in the mindsets and politicking of various European governments, and which have cost taxpayers in other countries dear, but makes sufficient reference to underline the motivations of those involved in the pre-Euro days when news headlines regularly reported the barely understood problems with "the snake" (Exchange Rate Mechanism).. Seen from the inside, the whole thing was appalling, and it isn't surprising Connolly was booted out of the Commission! Connolly also reveals the plotting at the very top of the Tory party which helped get rid of Margaret Thatcher, and a shameful tale it is. Undoubtedly we still have senior politicians (in any party) whose adherence to the aim of establishing a wholly undemocratic government of Europe, answerable to no-one, lurks carefully concealed behind in their public utterances, and we should be wary. | stonedyou
08/10/2020 22:05 | KenBachelor Post 12546 of 12548 "TT - You're very lucky, I'm £244k down" How much? Wtf. Still, with a max of 5% allocation in ones porty you're still comfortable. | geckotheglorious |
