Comment like that belongs on the other thread. If it helps - I'm comfortable but not wealthy, happily married. No great value investments but it's a bit of a hobby. Is that ok ? Interesting to see what you wish for.

PM 'considers raid on pensions.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering imposing a 'mansion tax' on Britain's most expensive homes.
The increased funding would pay for big rises in public spending, reports suggest.
(What about all the money UK no longer paying to EU?)
Major cuts to pension tax relief are also being looked at by the Prime Minister and Chancellor Sajid Javid ahead of the looming March Budget.
It is not clear what exactly this extra tax on properties - referred to as a 'recurring wealth tax' - would involve.
One possible version of the tax, is an added council tax band for the most expensive properties, above that of those fitting in the H band now.
The report also adds that the treasury are considering slashing pension tax relief to 20 per cent - from 40 per cent - for those making equal to or more than £50,000.
This would generate an extra £10billion per year.

Chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance John O’Connell said: 'It seems to be a misunderstanding of what the Tories’ new voters were looking for.
'They may be new converts to the message, but they still expect the Conservatives to be the ones backing them when they succeed.

Oh dear, its seems that those damned elected bureaucrats want to get there grubby little hands on your hard earned Great British pounds!
Who would have thought?

"I want a bit more excitement if that's the right word. It's no longer just about the money I'm too old to worry about it."
So..
Why don't you sell your LLOY "investment" take your money and run
Buy your self some excitement before you die.

Shafted's a bit alarming innit? 'SOME first time Tory voters in the Midlands & North could be asked to pay a bit more if they earn lots of dough to finance raising NI thresholds & other more equitable innivatives to support low paid WORKERS & infrastructure in the midlands and north. MANY Tory voters in London & the SE will also be asked to pay a bit more to support these plans since they have been the beneficiaries of massive public investment in recent years.
Would imo be more accurate.

Lucky you jordaggy sounds like they'd be in trust then?
Spent a bit of time as a younger man in muswell hill myself, used to frequent the flask & the wrestlers arms.

Your correct ofcourse punative retrospective taxes levied at individuals who've prospered from EU aren't fair (just winding m2 up) I'm all for people owning mansions provided they've paid for them by fair means, a mansion tax could be levied on those who want to buy mansions but dont want to disclose how they've attained their wealth, for example a finance check on all purchases over say 2.5M. Trust funds I'm afraid are another bugbear of mine.

That's not quite fair Tricky, I was left property in Muswell Hill and Crouch end...I didn't ask for them, I was happy with my home in Pratts bottom. I don't regard any of the properties as mine, as when I die they will be passed...but they do provide a good income, of which some of the income goes to charity!
