23/5/2004 23:52 | Liverpool will announce the departure of Gerard Houllier as manager imminently. (Daily Mail, The Sun, Daily Telegraph, Daily Express, Daily Mirror, The Times, The Guardian) Djbrill Sissy carried off with ankle injury playing for Auxerre . Kop final By PHIL THOMAS GERARD HOULLIER will be axed as Liverpool boss today - with Alan Curbishley favourite to replace him. Houllier has had crunch talks at Kop chairman David Moores' home in the Lake District. And the club will announce an amicable parting of ways. Charlton manager Curbs is likely to be first choice to take over at Anfield after Porto chief Jose Mourinho's move to Chelsea moved a step closer this weekend. The Kop were also considering Rafael Benitez, who has just led Spanish club Valencia to La Liga and UEFA Cup glory. But Benitez picked up the domestic title following yesterday's clash with Albacete - and will be rewarded with a new two-year contract. Valencia president Jaime Orti will try and stave off interest from Merseyside by making a new lucrative offer that his manager will not be able to refuse. | snowmann

21/5/2004 12:56 | CISSE COMMITTED TO KOP MOVE Friday 21st May 2004 French striker Djibril Cisse insists he will join Liverpool this summer regardless of whether Gerard Houllier keeps his job. There is ever-increasing speculation that the Frenchman could be shown the door this summer after a largely disappointing campaign this season. Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez and even Alan Curbishley have all been linked with the manager's job at Anfield in recent days casting doubt over Houllier's future. It was the Frenchman who was instrumental in organising Cisse's move to Merseyside from Auxerre this summer, expected to go through on July 1. However, the 22-year-old hit-man is adamant he will complete his dream move to The Reds whether Houllier is still in a job or not. "I am desperate to come to Liverpool and enjoy the top-class Ladyboy action the club have promised me ". | snowmann

21/5/2004 01:08 | After Beckham's snub, Chelsea have made Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard their No 1 target. They believe Gerrard will quit the Kop, providing they meet the £30m asking price. Gerrard, 23, signed a new four-year deal only last November. But he has become increasingly dissatisfied with the strength of the squad and also the current treatment of his mentor, Gerard Houllier. With a £100,000-a-week, five-year contract on the table, the player is ready to listen to what the ambitious Londoners have to say. A Chelsea insider told Sunsport: "Gerrard is the man we want. We believe he is prepared to leave Liverpool if the offer is right. "He has been the Premiership's outstanding midfielder this season and Chelsea have the money to get him." Should Gerrard be sold, it could mean Michael Owen leaving Liverpool as well. Owen is in talks on his future. | snowmann
