20/5/2004 12:33 | Alan Smith will ultimately decide I suspect. He doesn't have to agree the move, Leeds have to sell, so if he wants to go to Man U/Liverpool or elsewhere but not Everton, the bid level will be irrelevant IMO DYOR etc ;-) | madgooner
20/5/2004 12:31 | 7M bid for Alan Smith from Everton apparently just turned down. Difficult to believe really. Think they're playing a risky game trying to hold out for more. | stewjames

20/5/2004 02:08 | The Liverpool board will sack manager Gerard Houllier within 24 hours after he called on them to publicly back him. (Daily Mail) Liverpool are ready to "sound out" Celtic boss Martin O'Neill about taking over from Houllier at Anfield. (Daily Express) Liverpool are debating whether to bring in Kenny Dalglish as director of football. (Independent) Gerrard demands Reds spend Steven Gerrard has repeated his demand that Liverpool sign at least three world-class players over the summer. With Chelsea reportedly interested in Gerrard and boss Gerard Houllier's future in doubt, the club captain says the board must act. "If I come back (from Euro 2004) and there are only one or two new faces here then I don't think that will be good enough," said Gerrard. "The next two or three months are going to be very interesting." The Liverpool board are currently considering whether to accept an offer from Thai Prime Minister Thaskin Shinawatra to buy 30% of the club. At the same time, newspaper reports suggest Houllier could be sacked within the next week with Martin O'Neill and Alan Curbishley among the possible replacements. And Chelsea are said to be ready with an offer of up to £50m for Gerrard, but the Liverpool captain insists he has been assured the Anfield squad will be strengthened. "Things are going to change and there'll be some money available to invest in the team," he said. "That's nice to know because we need three or four signings to freshen things up on the playing side. "There's no doubt the squad needs strengthening if we are to get back up among the top three because they are operating on another level to us at the moment." | snowmann

19/5/2004 18:32 | Bad news for the Gunners is that our boggly-eyed friends's reign at Anfield looks to be over as Liverpool appear likely to appoint a new manager in the summer. They might actually get somebody half-decent in and it's a bit ironic that after doing something positive for the first time in ages selling Heskey for more than his £29.99 valuation these stories emerge. Not much of a surprise though, he's a Grade A chancer whose 5 year plan is now in its 6th year for everyone except Ged, who last week claimed it still had time to run because he never told anyone when he actually started it. My brother will be happy, so that makes me sad. | pizzaman

19/5/2004 11:25 | Morning One and All Great news on Heskey!!! Cheers Brummies.... As for GH, welllllll I know he and the the lads have done brillinatly in the last few games to save us the Champions league spot. But id still swap him for O'Neil any day of the week. If were not gonna bring in someone who will do a better job then theres no point in changing for changes sake. Just read Chelski are offering £30 million for Stevie G with a £100k a week deal. Dirty Blue nose russians have been drinking too much vodka if you ask me!!! Sat Wa Dee | chirpychap

19/5/2004 09:57 | stu, won't Real snap him up then? I assume they're going to sack Queiroz. Normally only winning one thing is enough to get the manager the boot after all! | stewjames |
