10 Signs Your Life Is On Track, Even When It Doesn't Feel Like It

Happiness is a choice, but sometimes choosing happy can be hard. Why? In the pursuit of happiness, many of us are distracted and disheartened by the noise of our minds running rampant.

If (even in your pursuit of happiness) you still struggle with depression or life sometimes doesn't make sense, you’re not alone. We all have moments of frustration. Resisting these feelings actually keeps us from being happy.

Incorporating happiness into our lives is a dedicated practice. Like any new skill, we must allow ourselves to be beginners at first. We stumble, we get angry with ourselves because we aren't seeing results; This only adds intense pressure that prevents us from moving forward. I bet you're doing a lot better than you give yourself credit for. Here are 10 subtle signs you're headed in the right direction — even when it doesn't feel like it.

1. You're excited about your future and have things to look forward to.

2. You can say no without explaining yourself.

3. You can enjoy your food guilt-free.

4. You’ve stopped trying so hard and are beginning to allow things to come to you.

5. You’ve recognized that what you’re going through is preparing you for what you asked for.

6. You are OK with not knowing the outcome.

7. You no longer compare yourself to others; You want everyone to make it.

8. You invest in yourself and focus on daily improvements.

9. You've stopped asking, "What can I get?" Now, you ask, "What can I give?"

10. You know you matter.

by Shannon Kaiser

These insights are excerpted from the author's new book, Adventures for Your Soul.

Most of the things we consume, we do not really need.

However we still consume large amounts of rubbish every day and by doing this we also make bad impact on earth, because by buying theirs goods, we support the way they are made and they are made in a really nasty way damaging the wildlife, our health and human rights on the other side of the world.

It means we ourselves are also to be blamed for supporting this. The option first of all should be to stop consuming and it is an action we can all do and this action would make a big change.

The darkness of the world is our own darkness. Instead of buying products produced by large corporations and instead of using their services, supporting their inadequate behaviour, we can buy stuff from local small shops and producers, whose businesses are also suffering and closing down because of the big corporations.

People manually producing goods, running small shops, the ones, who do organic farming are usually doing no harm to the environment and are the people same as us and in this way we would rather support each other, than those corporations.

Without Time nothing is possible.

Everything requires Time.

Time is the only permanent and absolute ruler in the universe.

But she is a scrupulously fair ruler.

She treats every living person exactly alike every day.

No matter how much of the world’s goods you have managed to accumulate, you cannot successfully plead for a single moment more than the pauper receives without ever asking for it.

Time is the one great leveler.

Everyone has the same amount to spend every day.

The next time you feel that you ‘haven’t the time’ to do what you really want to do, it may be worth-while for you to remember that you have as much time as anyone else — twenty-four hours a day.

How you spend that twenty-four hours is really up to you.

Your life is too short and too valuable to fritter away in work.

If you don’t get out now, you may end up like the frog that is placed in a pot of fresh water on the stove. As the temperature is gradually increased, the frog feels restless and uncomfortable, but not uncomfortable enough to jump out. Without being aware that a chance is taking place, he is gradually lulled into unconsciousness.

Much the same thing happens when you take a person and put him in a job which he does not like. He gets irritable in his groove. His duties soon become a monotonous routine that slowly dulls his senses. As I walk into offices, through factories and stores, I often find myself looking into the expressionless faces of people going through mechanical motions. They are people whose minds are stunned and slowly dying.

Does Money Really Buy Happiness?

When psychologists, sociologists, and economists discuss the relationship between money and happiness, they invariably assume that money is the causal factor. But, of course, the causal direction could (and undoubtedly does) go both ways. That is, money buys happiness, but happiness also buys money. Indeed, several studies have suggested that happier people are relatively more proficient or gifted at earning more

Does It Matter? is a superb read in its entirety.

Complement it with Watts on how to live with presence, Sam Harris on cultivating mindful living, and Frank Partnoy on the art of waiting, then revisit Annie Dillard’s ever-timely reminder that how we spend our days is how we spend our lives.

Just exactly what is the “good” to which we aspire through doing and eating things that are supposed to be good for us?

This question is strictly taboo, for if it were seriously investigated the whole economy and social order would fall apart and have to be reorganized.

It would be like the donkey finding out that the carrot dangled before him, to make him run, is hitched by a stick to his own collar.

For the good to which we aspire exists only and always in the future.

Because we cannot relate to the sensuous and material present we are most happy when good things are expected to happen, not when they are happening.

We get such a kick out of looking forward to pleasures and rushing ahead to meet them that we can’t slow down enough to enjoy them when they come.

We are therefore a civilization which suffers from chronic disappointment — a formidable swarm of spoiled children smashing their toys.

We've got free will, so use it!

Free will and consciousness must be exercised. Most of what occurs in the brain and mind is unconscious, with the brain unconsciously regulating our body at all times. Many do not make the effort to be conscious; and many scientists want us to believe human brains are robots and computers.

Each person is bombarded by huge amounts of suggestions from media and other people in our 24/7 environments. It is difficult not to fall prey to random suggestions and believe and act upon them. Untrue gossip can totally affect how we feel about someone. Random suggestions create negative thinking and cause immune problems. This is unconscious behaviour.

Conscious free will does exist, but must be found and exercised. It is like training a new muscle. The choices we make have dramatic effects on the growth and health of our future brain. Practices like meditation increase the ability to use conscious choice and, also have many positive effects on physical and mental health. By utilizing conscious will in exercises, it becomes stronger and we become more able to make good choices.

No matter what your age or condition or experience, the sooner you find out what you really want to do and do it the better, for that's the only way anyone can avoid work.

Try this approach. Suppose you were financially independent and were perfectly free to do anything you wanted, what would you do, if anything?

If your inclinations are at all definite, the answer to this simple question provides at least a general definition of the field which you would enjoy most.

Most [people] have the ridiculous notion that anything they do which produces an income is work - and that anything they do outside 'working' hours is play. There is no logic to that.

If You Want To Live A More Mindful Life, Read This

Stop and smell the roses. Literally and figuratively

Mindfulness is essentially about not allowing life to pass you by in a blur. It's about not reaching the weekend or the end of the month (or year) and looking back and not being able to remember the highlights, the lowlights, or anything in between. It's about remembering to be aware of the journey through life, even the little things. (Especially the little things!)

Happiness includes:

optimism

realization and cultivation of character strength

insight and self-awareness

purpose, passion and meaning

mindfulness of moments

Knowledge of these facts and virtues is one thing, but in many ways happiness means swimming upstream against some pretty ingrained biological and cultural patterns that take us in the opposite direction.

Cultivating personal strengths is awesome, but modern culture tends to celebrate (and push us all toward) a concentrated few that fit with current concepts of efficiency, productivity and practicality.

Too many of us linger in relationships and work environments that are incongruous with our individual ideology because we don't know what that ideology is, and we're not sure how to go about making change.

Thankfully, we can make bold moves to better bring our strengths within our current contexts or mindfully move into new spaces where our innate offerings are valued, enhanced and activated.

Not into any of the above myself.

But spent years cutting the church graveyard.

Sunday might see 6 old,or very old punters going to church.

Over the last 800 years it must be the lowest numbers ever.!

Agree with poster above,at some stage that church will be full again.

That said might be another 800 years,!

My belief is that we are basically going to have a very major spiritual revival in the next few years - it's really been happening in a visible way since the time of the Maharishi, and this spiritual revival is not going to go away.

Further symptoms of it are now showing themselves with people like Russell Brand more or less preaching spirituality and teaming up with the Dalai Lama, and both of those famous figures for example now have over 8 million followers on Twitter.

A new less cynical generation is being born and growing up now, who are ready to listen to what those of older generations except from some who were still young in the 1960s and 1970s were not.

A less materialistic generation that's ready for the spiritual wave that is about to hit us like a benevolent tsunami.
